Just in case your knowledge of her is limited to what was said in mainstream media at the time, there is a good opener article in UKC

The abuse that she suffered from Ballard was a real shock to me. Complete eye opener and a tragic story.

AIUI she almost felt obliged to do these hugely difficult dangerous ascents so she could gain enough autonomy and money to get away from her abusive relationship. Can you imagine that?

If anyone has any other links to info then feel free to add them

Great article.

Not someone I'd ever heard off

I've read quite a few things where she has 'appeared' as a name in someone else's book. I need to do more reading.

It is, but it is also deeply unsettling in places.

Her husband came across as a weapons-grade **** in the two BBC documentaries. The second one, about the death and subsequent search for her son Tom's body by his sister Kate, is particularly heart-wrenching.

There was a long thread on here about The Last Mountain and Alison Hargreaves a while back. Well worth a read, well worth a watch. Very unsettling I agree

Funny bugger Jim. Didn't take to him at all the couple of times I met him. But she did come across as hard work as well.
