The gym and pool were both stupidly busy this morning.

It's great to see so many people out there doing something but I can't help but hope they get bored and I can have a lane to myself again.

I really should re-start fitness classes. I will ride so much better if I'm stronger and lighter.

In tribute to the olympics, last week I went to McDonalds and had a Big Mac, fries, fillet-o-fish, fries, chicken nuggets, and a mcflurry. Does that count?

Too busy watching telly. Will ride bike later (besides, just rode a week in the Alps 2 weeks back so officially in a recovery phase. still).

Right thumb is getting exercise swapping between BBC HD, BBC1HD, ZDF and RTL 😉

archery is dull, but it's raining outside, and anyway I'm at work (at home). I will go for my proxy-commute later on.
Tomorrow I will be cycling 20-25 miles to watch the Time Trial.

To raise the tone.....I had one off the wrist during the beach volleyball,

In a crowded office - that would be gold medal territory

Watched the opening ceremony in bed while eating biscuits. Did a race the day after. Have actively avoided exercise since, because it hurts getting down stairs

I googled local athletics clubs just now, after watching a programme about the up coming 100m race

Would be if there wasn't so much good sport on the telly.

🙁

no more than than usual. but yes, the local outdoor pool was quite crowded the other morning, some were swimming in wetsuits. One lady I spoke to said she was wearing it to train for a triathlon she's entered.

Keva - the wetsuit thing is sort of ok... although there are lakes available.
This morning the lake I was at was very quiet... guessing that "poor weather" > "olympics effect" for outdoor swimming.

Just me, the rain and the mud up on the hill last night. One more rep than last time though. Must be the Armitstead effect 🙂

Off kayaking in Scotland this weekend, but before that I might treat myself to a nice trail run tonight. Maybe something in the 5 mile range, just to keep my hand in as it were.

Indeed. How's the training going btw? Not seen many endomondo updates on FB recently...

I've not been using endomondo. Had a good week last week, then a rest, going running tonight.

And I know you're going to rip the piss, but it looks like I can't afford to do the BNT any more. Please don't taunt me as I am proper gutted.

Gutted for you mate.

I'll wait until the event has gone and you're not so gutted yourself before I start taking the mick 😉

What are you training for now then?

Thanks 🙂

It worked out at the best part of £500 and we just can't spare it due to a few factors all ganging up.

What am I training for? Good bloody question. There's a sprint tri in Cardiff on the 30th of September which I might do, but I really can't get inspired about it. Pool swim.. blergh. Still, I might as well give it a go.

Can I have a small "HA"? It's killing me.

Aren't there a couple of events around Bristol coming up soon?
There are also races at South Cerney near Cirencester... drivable for you and pretty sure they're relatively cheap to enter.

DirtyG - when are you going to learn that I need the full stats of the ride.

21mph is not very good for a 5 mile descent with a 2000m elevation loss.

Yeah I only had a quick skim of available races, it seems there are a lot! Wetsuit is part of the expense, so I suppose it has to be a pool swim sadly.

DG thanks, but travelling to Scotland isn't cheap!

Well done on climbing through the ranks btw.

My fastest ride was probably my best commute in Germany, 33.6km/h for 18 miles including some traffic lights and a hill. I wonder if I could do that now...?

You can probably still pick up a last year rental suit 2nd hand for (I think) £50.

Open water swimming is bloody awesome as well.

Ha, busted 😉 47miles, average heart rate just slipped into zone 4 this week (mostly because it was a headwind both ways - seriously, how does that work?!), average cadence of 93, one long climb, 3 short steep ones. Better?! 😛 My new wheels are awesome, but not quite - i'll not be able to attack without being heard!

Mol, why not do some road racing, very cheap - about £10-15 per race - then you've got no excuses!

I do have a fitness question though: what it is that makes one feel sick when at high heart rates (ie sprint finish of a race?)

I looked at road racing, but as far as I can tell it involves a drive to Castle Coombe on a weekday night. Can't find anything going on locally.

Feeling sick - I always thought it was blood being diverted away from your gut to your legs, which in turn makes you want to empty your stomach.

Impending death?

Good work on the ride... I'm guessing it was a chain gang. Why aren't the wheels quiet? Road noise? Surely they make less noise in the wind?

Re the headwind... was it actually quite still and it was just that you were going faster?

i'm absolutely rubbish this year. Completely tailed off in april/may after finding road racing boring and tedious.

Now over a minute off my PB for our time trial this year while everyone else is much faster. It's no surprise really. Last year i was training nearly everyday and very motivated. Last few months i've done nothing really.

Need to get it sorted for the cyclocross season as that's what i really enjoyed last year

nope.. not really. I did get beaten by club mate last night which shocked me a bit. I was over 2 minutes quicker than him last year. I was riding home mumbling to myself how i could get back my fitness and how to motivate me

Last year I was motivated because it was all new to me and i was doing pretty well with only 5 months training.

Ego blow isn't it? Same thing happened to me over winter cross country. Getting beaten by considerably slower people finally caused me to admit to the chest infection I'd been ignoring. Not the more obvious evidence in the sink every morning and the month-long barking cough 🙂

tricky, that's not good. I'm hoping that won't happen to me next year...i'm very motivated by my progress this year, but equally worried that if i get to cat 2 in my 1st season then it'll be much harder next year and i won't see as many improvements/good placings! why did you find the racing boring out of interest?

Not bad... 5:14 (35odd swim, 2.50something bike and a lazy 1.42run) and 43 outta 117

There were "surprise" road works 5 mins into the bike. When I got to the stop/go lolly pop man there was one other lady already there... when the guy turn the lolly pop board to Go (5mins later) there must have been 20 odd waiting... Grrr.

Still plugging away, olympics or no olympics. I train in London during the week and mercifully the gym has been much quieter this week as lots of people have been told to work from home / have gone on holiday.

Happy to bore you with program / workouts if you want.

About to sign up for the Spartan Beast race (it's in Nov). Gives me another 100 days or so to get properly fit...

Was doing races on my own (without any club mates) fed up of negative racing, everyone riding around in a bunch until the last lap, Nobody willing to chase down breaks (in 3 races i came to the front in the last lap to help pull in a visible break in that had formed and absolutely no one willing to come through and work)

I just can't understand people turning up to races to finish in the bunch every week (this is particularly true for crit races here. every single one finishes in a bunch and the guys that win aren't active in the race)

I also paid for a coach last year which saw big gains in a short space of time.
