Mind-numbingly tedious nil nil draw, even more spirit-crushing extra time then Engerland going out on penalties then?

No, turgid affair, 1-0 win, Kane to score, (for England).

That'll do nicely after all that excitement.

England to go out - natch.
You didn't read it hear first.
Will go to the gym at 5pm as it will be, almost, empty.

The extra substitutes situation has made a huge impact. The fightbacks we've just seen in those two matches have much to do with there being more fresh legs on the field towards the end of the games, which has helped them be as exciting as they have. Towards the end of a match there can be as many as ten fresh (sets of) legs on the field. Or twelve in extra time.

Makes the squad more important than the team, bodes well for those teams with greater strength in depth, and those with more of a squad mentality (Italy and England) than those teams centred aroind one or two great players.

Sterling to "win" the penalty, that Kane converts.

As I had an early get up this morning, I didn't watch the late match last night, did I miss any excitement?

Goal of the tournament from Pogba last night followed by about 6 different celebrations from him, probably knew he wasn't going to get any more chances for another.

Some sobering stats ahead of this evenings game
England have played Germany at Wembley 9 times since 1972, They've won once in 1975.
7 defeats and one draw.

As a Neubürger in the Vaterland, who am I to support this evening?

I suppose, either way I'm a winner... 🥳

Switzerland - stay neutral

Would have been a better suggestion 😉

I genuinely do not care what the outcome is. Although if it goes to penalties and they win the toss ffs don't choose to go second.

I just want them to play like they aren't about to kak their keks, their socks made of lead and their boots concrete.

I want a Sako and Walker at wingback, to gerrit upem. I want a midfield triumvirate of Rice, Mount, Phillips, Sanchez and Grealish to run at the opposition. I want a front two of Sterling, Kane and Calvert Lewin. I want Lewin to sprint through a creaky German defence like he has an extra leg. I want Sterling to look genuinely surprised when he runs into a wall of 5 opponents and doesn't come away with the ball, instead of just mildly bemused. I want the trainer to put a fresh set of batteries in the Kane-bot. I want someone, don't care who, to give Muller a reason to collapse like a cheap tent. Don't care who but please let it be Pickford, on a delayed offside, so there are no consequences.
I want Southgate to show some sign he is actually alive.

I Just want them to give me a game. That's all. Good luck.

Any predictions on how long before they pass it back to the keeper? Hopefully Germany will score early to spice it up a bit.

I think it’s England's best chance of beating Germany in years.

Well Joachim's pre match motivation is easy "look at their team selection, they are thinking more about what you can do than what they can do, get at them and don't let them settle"

However if we can keep them mainly contained maybe the plan is to bring on more creativity in the last half hour, the games so far have tended to favour a late surge, it might not be that bad a plan.

Nice to see the England fans have grown up and don’t boo the opposing team during the anthems. 🙄

And yet Southgate has gone defensive. He'll flatter himself that it's a back 3 but it's a back 5. They'll have looked at the Portugal game, seen how they pulled the defence narrow to allow Goossens and Kimmich to roam. Instead of picking a squad to pin them back with threat they've gone out to neutralise them in attack. I think that's the wrong choice. German are there for the taking, they aren't what they were but I think you have to press them into backpedaling. Their defence is vulnerable

Germany’s midfield is much stronger.

Oh, I forgot one thing on my wishlist. Someone get the band's instruments and cram them up their fundaments until they learn at least one new song.

Are England actually favourites for this...?

Skybet....

Eng 13/10

Germany 21/10

Who should I spunk a tenner on? Either way I'd be backing my country.... 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇩🇪

Germany’s midfield is much stronger.

They are without Gundogan. Kroos is class, the wingers are really fullbacks.

So Goretzca throws out his leg, trips Rice and gets the free kick? Hmmmm.

When Shaw gets the ball wide, Sterling has to make the run to the touchline, otherwise Shaw has no attacking option.

Shaw looks like he's being hindered by the size of his chest/shoulders - he looks out of proportion

Every time Kane gets the ball to his feet (well, okay both times) they are going after his ankles.

After the excitement of the last few days, the Mogadon that is Engerland.

Time for sleepy-bye-byes and wake up in time to see them go out on penalties

I feel like England are the better side but a combination of our traumatised national psyche, relying on an unfit striker, and having Luke Shaw in midfield will mean that doesn't matter.

Same steroid dealer as Shakiri, the only square soccer player.

🙂

After the excitement of the last few days,

It's knock-out soccer. You can have exciting but error ridden, or you can have better soccer but less exciting. This s the latter. The is room for both sides to improve, but it's better gamecraft than we've seen so far.

Kane coming off is probably a blessing, though I hope he's ok of course.

Rashford coming on, meh. He's been off the boil for quite a while now.

This game was built for Calvert Lewin. I don't know why Southgate prefers Rashford over him.

5-10 years ago, if I'd told you England would go toe to toe with Germany and match them punch for punch, you'd have jumped for joy and and laughed your head off. Just sayin'

Nice assist there Grum?

It was a decent cross, nothing special though and about the first decent thing he's done. I think he's an ok defender, just an unambitious selection for midfield.

Rashford has been great in the past but his current form is pretty underwhelming.

Your joy on England scoring is overwhelming however 😆
