Thought this might be better on its own thread, but mods feel free to disagree.

While I personally have no real problem with retention of this stuff if it's after proper parliamentary debate, I'm not sure I want it being sneaked through under the Coronavirus powers

It does at least have an end date (as it stands) but I’m with you on the concern about very contentious things like this getting waved through while no one is watching.

As they say “never let a crisis go to waste”

The way I see it, the mass testing that is/will happen due to coronavirus is a great method to obtain secondary data, like DNA profiles. So it would need to be under the coronavirus legislation, as that's the data collection methodology being used.
If it was a separate DNA screening programme, it wouldnt be part of coronavirus, so would be a separate bill, I think.

Also, I understand the weird feeling about knowing that specific personal information is being held, but I'm not 100% on whether it is an issue to be concerned about.
Pretty sure no one is interested in cloning me. 😉
