Eh?

Snackage to specifically accompany a pint down your local? Whetting your pre-kebab appetite

Normal Walkers-esque crisps just don't cut it really IMHO. You need something a bit more substantial. Roast Beef Monster Munch for example. I've recently discovered these, and the fiery Madras is coming up trumps as the bestest pub snack ever

Your nominations please.....

Kurkure - the ones in the green packet (unless you prefer inferno hot, in which case, the ones in the red packet)

I'm half torn between dry roasted peanuts or a good Bombay mix. Some of the more budget Bombay mixes tend to miss out on flavours and spices though.

Crisps are just a bit too ordinary and don't tempt me that much.

We normally go pick n mix at the end of the night - just ask the bar man to grab a load of random snacks and flavours. There is a great pub in Knaresborough that does stuff like Pickled Onion Monster Munch and Discos too.

buy a bag of salt and vinegar crisps and a pickled egg. eat half the crisps (appetiser). smash up remaining crisps in bag. insert egg. shake. eat. ghetto scotch egg.

as if a scotch egg wasn't ghetto enough.

Nothing comes close to the pairing of pork scratchings and good real ale.

It will indeed be coming out with trumps.

Salted cashews are a favourite, also quavers, not just any quavers mind, it has to be the original cheese, melt in your mouth nothing ness.

Can't remember the make, but when I go for a drink in Bath in a friends local, I always have a packet or two of Jalapeño Crisps. A pint of Doom Bar or Butcombe is essential with these crisps. I just wish more places sold them. Nom!

In order of bloomin loveliness, when served with a pint of something cold...

1. Biltong
2. Pork scratchings
3. Mini pretzels
4. Bacon fries
5. Japanese fire crackers
...
Some other food
...
1000000000000000. Pickled eggs.

Good call that man.

In their absence, I'd suggest Steak McCoys and a pint of bitter. After the second or third pint, you may crave something meatier, which is when you bring out the pork scratchings.

It has to be XL cheese crisps with a healthy covering of tabasco sauce whilst munching on a pickled egg, yum.........almost worth an excuse to cycle to the pub for a feast.

Salted pistachios ftw

+1 slightly tempered by the odd one in a packet you can't open.

Macadamia nuts run a close second

Cashews third

Nuts make up an important part of my diet.

Pickled eggs are ace. There was a crazy pub about a mile from my house where I grew up that brewed it's own ale and the home-made pickled eggs there were incredible.

Unfortunately I've been banned from eating pickled eggs by the wife, so I'll have to nominate good old-fashioned salted peanuts. 🙁

Jumbo salted peanuts. Used to prefer Brannigans beer nuts with the crunchy salt and gnarly bits on the outside but they seem to have disappeared years ago.

Failing that the Thai fries (basically spicy wedges) with chili dipping sauce that a couple of our locals do.

slainte 😀 rob

Planters Dry Roasted - best ever in world anywhere!
Scampi fries - a distant second.
Prawn-Cocktail Seabrook - a close third.

What?!? Are there no real northerners on here!?!?

The fish man comes around the pubs of my youth. He brings pots of shell fish (prawns for th ladies) and vinegar and white pepper.

Nowt better to make the bitter go down.

+1, maybe without the tabasco though. The eggs have to be home-made with brown vinegar too.
I don't know what kind of pubs some of you drink in, with pretend crisps on offer (those that are moulded from tattie paste)! 😕

Used to get one of those in my old local before I moved. Always got greeted with most fo the bar shouting "SEAFOOD!" in a high pitched chant followed by some wag (not always the same one, either) calling "Got any crabs on yer, cock?"

It always made us smile, anyway

These are a pretty damn good pint accompanyment. Though you then have to sand-blast your hands to remove the smell

So.... has anyone else tried the Warburtons Fiery Madras Naan Crisps yet then?

You really need too!
