What with one thing and another I never got round to watching The Bridge. Anyway, it's currently on Iplayer (series 1) so we started it last week.

I thought it was supposed to be amazing/awesome/insert accolade but to be honest we are are a bit underwhelmed. We watch a lot of scandi/euro telly, a lot of which is truly outstanding but somehow The Bridge seems a bit meh. I appreciate it's fairly old now, and I can see a lot of its influence in more modern crime drama, but am I missing something?

I thought it was brilliant but we are all different.

After watching it when it was first shown I was also underwhelmed but seemed to be in the minority with this view. Wouldn't worry about it. Really, nothing has come up to the exceptional standard set by Borgen.

I loved it, but each to their own.

I too loved it, still have to watch the final series, had it on a sky+ box then moved from sky, so thanks for the heads up, will check out iplayer.

Borgen was really good, but got a bit too Westwing in the end (left wing love in, me included in that, when the world outside tilted right, which has tempered my enjoyment of them both).

I thought it was quite good, I loved Saga and being autistic I found it unusual to be able to relate to a character.

Yep, loved it. Loved the characters and their relationship and humour, loved the sense of place and portrayal of CPH and Malmo. The plots were interesting. It wasn’t as ground breaking as The Killing IMO but deserves its place alongside Borgen and The Legacy.

We started s2-3-4 and only got round to series 1 this year so was a little strange to pick it up when they were younger / developing the characters. I think s3 and s4 worked the best (Henrik as the Danish partner rather than Martin).

Loved it. Only the fact they can always park right outside the office / headquarters / crime scene annoyed me.

However;

Loved it as well, mainly because of Saga, she really seemed to get across the issues autistic people have with relating to other people. I did try Borgen, but I’m just not interested in politics as entertainment.

I really liked it. Especially watching 2 episodes at a time weekly, instead of binging!

Takes a while for the characters to build. Stay with it, you might enjoy it as their relationships develop.

That's got to be the no.1 cop car. Possibly Morse's Jag second.

But what about "The Quattro"?

The Bridge and The Killing changed Saturday night TV for me and made me a fan of Scandi-noir and then to wider European series aired on Channel 4 and BBC4.

The Bridge was the best of all the scandi noir series I watched. S1 was astonishingly good.

Not in the same league but if you're pining for the fjords, Deadwind on Netflix is watchable Finnish noir.

Pretty good price based on being fairly well known.
Looking at the article iy is typical to see an autistic character being referred to as "oddball", still a long way to go yet...

Thoroughly enjoyed and binged on the Bridge.

However, Der Pass and then The Tunnel both cloned the formula and the plots ....bodies found straddling the border, "disfunctional" or "oddball" detectives ....... and many many more. Can't help but enjoy them all, but the Bridge remains the one for me.

Which version are you watching?

I loved the Scandi one, but recently saw and American version, same plot but Bridge across the Americas, and really struggled with it. It was also called 'The Bridge'

The UK version (The tunnel) was ok ish...

^ haven't seen Der Pass... might give it a go sometime 👍

The Scandi version

Der Pass is a bit of a variation inasmuch as the protagonist Austrian detective clearly has a very dark and difficult back story rather than the Asperger/Autism theme of the The Bridge and the Tunnel.

Gruesome and complex plots across the board, with plenty of twists and intrigue. Der Pass is enough of a divergence not to have you constantly making comparisons between the various versions, so is all the more entertaining for it.
