FFVII

The pullback from Aerith showing the street scene, then Midgar, then zooming back in and the quick cut scenes of the train.

An epic start to the greatest computer game of all time.

How the hell did that slip under my radar. Art of noise records and spectrum games were pretty much the only thing I spent my pocket money on back then.

what boardinbob said.

Not played another world but flashback on mega drive was pretty good

similar game but a bot silly seem to recall in the later levels you had to get out quick cue falling down 3 screens, probably a couple of hundred feet and then suddenly grabbing a ledge with out dislocating your shoulders or ending up looking like mr tickle

I can scarcely believe nobody has mentioned Zero Wing on Genesis/Mega Drive yet... spawned a million 'all your base' internet memes

Or the original PS1 Resident Evil intro... so bad it's great

A mate I used to work with had every single Rob Hubbard soundtrack (from his Speccy/C64 days) recorded as MP3 on a CD! He even brought them in one day to show us! What a sad f&*k! Yes, he was a techie ๐Ÿ˜›

Also, some Amiga ones that I have very fond memories of:

Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies for its (at the time) stunning sound/music

Shadow of the Beast 2

Heimdall

Cannon Fodder

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiYuq6Ac3a0&feature=related

Monkey Island!

So many great memories of that golden age of computers/games

Lots of good stuff in here. But it's still Final Fantasy 7, by a country mile... Because sure, it was pretty and it set the scene, but then it just led so perfectly into the game.

Most of the Mechwarrior games had good FMV intros.

Nice work on "Another World".

Impressively predicts the particle accelerator at CERN and is also essentially the same plot device used by Half Life many years later.

Recently watched the intro to Borderlands 2 and thought it looked quite cool. Love the cartoon art style.

Here is the infamous FrankieOnPC playing through it with a mate:

Another World +1

Totally blew me away when I saw it. First time I'd ever seen proper cinematic-style graphics in a computer game I think, but it also had artistic merit. Flashback also, but to a lesser extent.

For Another World and Syndicate Wars

They both bought back some happy memories ...... Cannot for the life of me remember where I use to play Another World unless I have a Sega copy .... goes off to check .....

EDIT >>>> It was indeed on my Mega Drive. Now how to spend the rest of the afternoon ....

Apologies for the Gary Bushey..... He agrees though.

Keep restarting until you can complete the whole game without dying. Report back this time next year with progress report.

Trying to remember the name of an old game on the Atari ST (probably Amiga too)

Think it was a helicopter game. Had a nice cinematic opening sequence, but all I can remember is the dialogue:

"Things.. are getting desperate..."

"Yes, Mr President"

Any ideas?

Half Life
and, for me, Bioshock - the whole 'plane crashing, landing in the water' thing really drew me in, made me want to find out what was going on.
