Has anyone actually done this to a car tyre and do you need a compressor to pump it up after or will a track pump do?

Done it with motorcycle tyres to seat the bead then used a track pump for the correct pressure.
Well I had a go with IPA but got nowhere, I'll try butane next quiet day. What did you use flicker?
I'll try to get pics if I can prop my phone up 🙂

I'd do a bit of research and use the right accelerant first time. Although people do it it largely held as a last resort - if you're half way up a glacier with the tyre off the rim and its going dark then its a trick worth knowing - if your not its a pretty dangerous thing to do even if you're using the right stuff to do it.
When I'm halfway up a glacier with a tyre off the rim, and its going dark, I'll be glad I practised in the garden 🙂
People seem to use all sorts, ez start popular but who has a can of that lying around these days.
I take your point tho, ill start small.
An old can of brut deodorant, hairspray, pretty much anything really.
Once you've got the tyre on the rim push the tyre down and spray inside for a couple of seconds (don't be shy with it) and then use the can like a flame thrower. Job done 😀
Oh yes, make sure you've already fired the new valve and the core is in it too.
Don't worry it'll be fine, eyebrows/fringes grow back......
Brut, hairspray, another two things I've not seen since the seventies 😀
I've got gt85 or lighter gas. I'll ask the girls at work.
Fringe will grow back you say, not without a time machine it won't.

Then you're the ideal person for the task, a plan with no draw backs.
What could possibly go wrong 😀
Mmmmm, BBQ'd Stans 😀
strugling to see a point in this ....
"things im unlikely to have in my backpocket on a ride"
1. deoderant/ezi start/ipa etc.
2. lighter/matches etc
So what's the science behind this? The resulting vacuum in the tyre pops the bead on the rim?
explosions innit.

Vacuun?
Rapidly expanding gases from the resultant explosion - think pop bottle on steroids.....
