Had to have a 2nd cortisone injection today. my last one was around 5 months ago, and over the last month the pain has returned and in the last week become quite bad again.

Is there anything I can do to avoid more pain and more injections? My doctor's opinion was that if it doesn't go away this time it might need operating on.

Lots of resting it. Lots more than you would like. Sounds like yours is pretty serious, though.

I had pretty bad tennis elbow after rowing in the gym every day in January, which I managed to really inflame during a motorbike trials course. Doc said I would need injections, but I saw a first class physio who sorted it (she's based near Newbury). She recommended a Vulkan brace, lots of ultrasound and stretching, rest if you can but most importantly don't overgrip things. I found Voltarol gel great for deadening the pain. Also she recommends pressing the sore spot on the outside of the elbow for 10 seconds, this squeezes the blood out of the area and when you take you're finger off fresh blood surges in, as circulation is poor in this area. Can't recommend finding a good physio enough though. Hope this helps
