I need a web host, and domain registrar for that matter, but need some recommendations.

I hear good things about namecheap but they are US based. If I'm in the UK is this an issue, particularly for web hosting???

Can you help please?

GoDaddy are pretty good, they've helped us out with domain registration and hosting. Reasonably priced and up to date technology - .Net 4.x and good SQL Server.

My only reservation is that their hosting seems a little slow - it takes a few seconds for our sites to load: don't know why, and don't think it's the way they are written.

UK support number available even though they are an US company. Reasonably happy with them...

eukhost are a UK-based company that I have used in the past and that I would happily recommend. The link here is my affiliate link so if you did opt for one of their packages, I potentially earn a nominal commission.

Yep. Cheap but seem to do the job well. Had to call a couple of times and have been helpful.

They have a European site (Germany I think) but I think a lot depends on how your site is set up. If you have a lot of back end database interaction it can be slow, if your pages are largely static/cached it is much faster.

Fasthost's been with them 5 years running various web sites for customers without any issues 🙂

I can help you out if you'd like? I have a resellers package on one of the fastest hardware cloud servers out there. drop me a email if interested. I can help with any domain / email / other queries you may have also.

Also just another point on the matter, don't go for a US based server if your UK based - Europe at a push but I'd recommend UK for speed. Also Godaddy are slow because they put a lot of packages on 1 server and set a slower response time as its less load for the server - meaning they can cram more people on the same hardware for the same price = greater profit.

I use Domain Monster for my domains, and they've been great for me. So good I can safely ignore them etc.

Personally I'd avoid GoDaddy as well.

Domain from GoDaddy (avoid getting your domains and hosting from the same place and avoid GoDaddy for hosting altogether).

For hosting I recommend either Rackspace(expensive) or Vidahost (cheaper).

fwiw I've had absolutely no problems with GoDaddy. They may not the be the fastest but we've got a couple of Drupal based sites with them and the pages come up quickly. However, as noted before, if your site isn't heavily cached then it will be slower.
