I used to pay council tax in a shared house in London. I moved out and someone else took over the council tax. I left my direct debit open so the council didn't get any missed payments as I want to buy a house next year and didn't want a missed payment causing problems with my ability to get a mortgage.
But, despite me asking several times, the dumbwits at my old house didn't get the council tax handed over properly and there was a gap of 3 weeks. Council sent a letter asking for about £66 which the dumbwits didn't bother to open even though it had their names on it.
So now the council have sent a court order/debt collection including costs - total £131.
I'm going to ring the council tomorrow to find out why they didn't take the outstanding from my account when they had my bank details. But mainly I want to know if this will hit my credit record and what the impact would be on my ability to get a mortgage.
Anyone?
