Yes, yes, yes CountZero. I totally agree re Talk Talk. The Colour of Spring is a fine example of great production. My CD is an original AAD first release and quite amazing.

@retro83 - not sure if I’ve mentioned it earlier in this thread or not, I know I have elsewhere, but the best book I’ve read about music recording and production across its entire history is Perfecting Sound Forever, by Greg Milner. Absolutely fascinating read, and it should be an essential part of any music lover’s library. It goes into a lot of detail about The Loudness Wars, the reasons for it, and why it’s so destructive to recorded music.

Just listened to the original memphis recordings album by primal scream, pretty bloody good. I liked the original album well enough but this is a different class.
