Hi all.

Naturally I don’t have the whitest teeth in the world and it’s been bugging me for a while.
I’m not looking for the ‘Hollywood’ ultra white smile but I’m thinking of having them professionally whitened.
I’ve used the toothpaste’s and white strips but nothing much has happened so i’m not sure what method to go for or possible side effects, sensitivity etc

Anyone had it done?

Tip ex? Seriously though don't these things just remove stains rather than change the natural enamel shade, perhaps you are just unlucky in having a dark shade of enamel.

The only way to ensure you get something that works and is safe is to go to your dentist who will make a couple of gum sheild type things that you put on with the gel in and hey presto.....you're Simon Cowell!

Actually the longer you leave them on the whiter they go. Costs about £300

know a few people who have. looks good, you have to stop drinking tea/ coffee/ red wine, etc. for a while and needs topping up every so often.

Had mine done a week before my wedding. Just one of these £50 jobs off GroupOn or the like.

You just lay there bored for an hour with a UV light shining on your teeth after they've applied the gel stuff. 3 x 15min sessions back to back.

Results were good and worth it as far as I was concerned. Can't eat anything but certain white food for 48 hours (or longer if you can) or drink anything but certain clear liquids after otherwise they'll stain again.

I've had mine done - the laser whitening.

Stings a little bit and as brakes says, you have to have a week off any stain-heavy foodstuffs. But once done it's really quite nice - I ended up smiling a load more 'cos I liked my new teeth 😀

Good to know this as i just ditched the evil weed that is tobacco. Worthy of a special phonecall to dentist asap.

Rockape63 has it! Once your whitener from your dentist has been used up, do a Google for the cheapest place but make certain you get the correct concentration.

I don't drink red or smoke so don't really have any nasty staining things in my diet.
As I said , Im not wanting the Richard Hammond but a few shade lighter would be nice 🙂

Any sensitivity after treatment?

Proper coffee doesn't help!

Your dentist will ensure that the gel is the correct concentration based on the sensitivity of your teeth. You may well find it a little uncomfortable at first but should ease off.

The only reason I had it done was that due to health problems my teeth literally turned grey. 😳

Edit: make sure that when finished you rinse out the shields in cold water and pat dry.

I had a similar issue, so asked a dentist friend and he recommended crest supreme strips.

Once a day for two weeks and they look great,I get complimented on them all the time. Not stupid white, and to be fair you can see the result after each time you use them. I had very little sensitivity issues.

Other strips probably do the same job, but I've used these ones and they were well worth it.
