Great just great..

Following an accident 10 yrs ago my lower right canine was replaced with a crown, which has been fine until 2 days ago when the entire post and crown snapped and fell off.

A trip to the dentist ( private) today has left me looking pale and somewhat shocked by the price of the treatment that she has suggested

£2500 for an implant !!!

She ( the dentist )has stated that there is a small fracture within the base of the tooth and so simply replacing the pin and crown would be futile.

Im sure that others have faced this dilemma but what should I do...I'm by no means loaded but could just about afford it...do I shop around, go abroad..... Be happy with my new toothless grin ? help !?

There are few if any NHS dentists round these ere parts and even fewer taking on new pts.

Im presuming that the standard of treatment is exactly the same?

Oh and whats APF?

Are you sure? Things have changed a lot in the last few years, where do you live?

They wouldn't do that treatment on the NHS. I was quoted exactly the same figure with a NHS/Private dentist.

There are cheaper, less desirable options...

That's because they're all doing private work. Of course, without private patients, there wouldn't be a problem...

Go abroad or ask for the price of a cantilever bridge.

Your options:

Do nothing
Some sort of denture
Some sort of bridge (careful, some are more destructive of the adjacent teeth than others)
An implant.

Depending where you are then £2.5k for an implant is the going rate and not available on the NHS.
