Not really on? not dropping off a fare, he was waiting there for a few minutes while the missus and I walked the length of the street.
[IMG] [/IMG]
He did't respond well to my suggestion that he might like to move his taxi, which is why I took the photo.

i know people have to make a living etc, but he got quite agitated, so sod him.

You forgot lights on whilst parked facing on common traffic.

Anyway what crime will the capped crusader smash next week, I look froward to it.

I'm glad folk park on the pavement round here. If they didn't you wouldn't be able to drive anywhere.

I don't know why the police ignore this...you see it every day and no one seems to care that peds can't see to cross, and drivers that have any risk awareness have to slow right down as they can't see if anyone is using the crossing.

You she see some of the utter stupidity I see EVERY day outside my son's primary school!
Parking along give way lines halfway onto a mini roundabout is probably the worst.
I've see one mum park her completely on the pavement to drop her spawn off.
It's not like there is perfectly legal parking on the streets round there, but that would involve 2 mins walking. FFS!

I have a school at the end of my street and it's a free for all dropping off/picking up time. When we leave our street we have right off way, going into or coming out of the school is a give way - do they give a cr@p? Noooooo!!! just come sailing out without looking, parked up on pavements, using our street as an unofficial car-park to the point where I came home one day to find an MPV parked in my drive!!!

They only shifted it when I pulled the sledgehammer out of the garage and gave them a count of five

Apples and oranges, mate.

I'm not advocating wholesale use of pavements, just judicious use when I feel that riding on the road exceeds a certain risk and the consequences of riding that pavement does not inconvenience others.

But you already knew that.

Next time you're down I'll show you that roundabout, I reckon you'll agree its not safe to cycle on.

You've motivated me to go out tommorow and look for people parked on the pavement then take photos then send all the photos to the local plod.

dogbert, you have my greatest sympathies indeed. Why people think its ok to behave like that, because "its only for a couple of minutes". Oh, sorry my mistake, perhaps you'd like to use my drive more regularly?? RSholes.

Dear Mr P

In this case I have limited powers under 2 pieces of legislation that govern the regulation of Hackney Carriages. Unfortunately they do not allow me to deal with offences under the Road Traffic Act. This is a matter for the Police to enforce. If you are prepared to supply a witness statement and possibly be prepared to go to court as a witness for a Police prosecution I will be happy to pass your complaint to the local Police for them to call and obtain the witness statement. (This offence is endorsable and where a driver may be in possession of 9 points already it may cause him or her to be disqualified from driving). Once a prosecution has taken place and the driver receives a conviction we may be able to deal with him on the basis of him not being a 'fit and proper person' to hold a licence.

Regards

local council taxi licensing authority, the local mp and the local policeman, and my town council too

Why contact the council twice?

Why contact the MP at all?

Reading between the lines: Are they telling you that he already has 9 points ??

Only slightly related but I tried to report someone who I believe is wrongly using a disabled badge.
The man on the phone said he was not allowed to discriminate against a person just because they appear to be able bodied. On the council website it says that permits are issued to people who have difficulty walking.
As the person in question can run I pressed the man for bit more of an explanation. He said he may have a non visible disability, such as I asked. He may be blind was the reply.
At that point I gave up.

I don't think so. I read it as "we would only consider getting involved if a successful prosecution happens, and then this took this drivers points over 12, and resultantly he's banned. Until then, please don't bother us, we're not interested."

OP - that taxi is parked on the white zig zags that are painted before and after a pedestrian crossing. He is not parked on a zebra crossing which looks like this:

Plenty of people have disability badges legally when yo cannot see the disability

T J the criteria for the badge on the council website is having difficulty walking. The person in question is perfectly mobile. Runs, climbs ladders etc. Clear misuse.

Plus sometimes people have badges if they're a carer of someone who is disabled - again, not necessarily with something that's visible. I seem to recall a couple who had a blue badge because their son had severe epilepsy. My mom had a badge on behalf of my dad, who struggled to walk.

Obviously they shouldn't be using the badge unless they're transporting the person with the disability.

Back to the OP, that is some atrocious parking - the pavement parking close to the wall/pillar would make it hard for someone in a wheelchair/mobility scooter/pushing a buggy to get by, and parking that close to the zebra crossing would reduce visibility of the crossing for other drivers.

My cousin's fiance has a blue badge (and a free car) because he has hemophilia.

Ninja edit: he has them because if he needs it then he *really needs* it. He rarely (if ever) uses it otherwise.

As bigyinn says - The worst driving/parking in the world is witnessed on School Runs. It defies belief sometimes.

I wouldn't go near my kids school in a vehicle. Its double parked all the way around it. People getting irate trying to force their way through in the inevitable 4x4. MPV Mexican stand offs! Cars abandoned apparently randomly on pavements. Utter madness! And all to drop the little darlings off RIGHT OUTSIDE THE GATE!

The thing is, if you park 3 or 4 streets away where there's virtually no traffic and you can park easily, then just stroll down the road to school, its actually a damn site quicker. Not to mention less stressful.

Me and the girls just shake our heads in disbelief as saunter past the idiots seething in their metal boxes. It seems they've lost the use of both their legs and their brains. Poor things

There's a crossing like this a few yards away from the entrance to our kids' primary school. The head put a chain across the school car park entrance (just before the zig zags to the crossing start) to stop the lazy arsed parents from blocking up the car park (where two families of wheelchair bound kids need space to unload). Result has been said lazy arsed parents merely parking right across the entrance of the car park stopping anyone from getting in and out.

Last week, a Fiat Panda was parked bang in the middle of the zig zags and when challenged the dozy bint just said "oh, I'm allowed to park here" whilst pointing to a home made "visitor" sign on her dash board!! She did it for three mornings running before collective disapproval made her rethink (she was actually a visitor to the school rather than a parent).

My friends dad is HIV, he has a badge and is fit as a fiddle.
Perhaps they need to tighten up who has a badge.

Have you considered contacting Number 10? What with your incredible ability to diagnose disability just by looking at people, you'd be saving the NHS and DSS zillions a year by catching out these spongers! 😆

Tagger, I'd suggest removing his wing mirrors personally. Still you wouldn't miss him with the chevrons on the back!

tagger you seem to ignore the fact you have two clear routes to chose from admittedly either choice may involve a squeeze and consequent risk of smashed wing mirror for him.

There's a bmw driver in chapel-town who insists on parking on double yellows in a cycle lane a similar distance before a traffic light controlled junction while he has a coffee in the caff . I keep weighing up the cost benefit of scraping my bars the length of his car as i squeeze past trying not to get hit by the lane of cars he forces me into.

1) Derek Starship - it is illegal to park on the zigzags, that whey there are there, to give the zebra clearance so people can see it as they approach.

2) IIRC the carer or driver of a disabled persons car can use the badge if collecting or dropping off the disabled person.

all this talking of Parents and their parking reminds me of a time a years back. My Folks live very close to a school (well it's opposit actually) - anyway 1 day, someone bold as brass decided that as there was nowhere to park they would actually use our driveway - not just the outside boundry - but in the ****ing gates! we were all a bit flabergasted staring not knowing what to do..... They got a mouthful in the end (after the kiddy was dropped off).. cretins...
