I don't understand the waste issue with nesspresso. Surely it depends on what else you're doing wrong in your life. If you're only sin is pod coffee then you're doing well.
It's no worse than a can of pop or a carton of milk but there does seem to be hate growing toward them.

At least the Nespresso pods are quite small. The Tassimo and Dolce Gusto pods are both pretty large and plastic.

The John Lewis 70 quid deal for a nespresso machine and frother, with 3 x £25 vouchers and including about £5 of samples is so worth it that I've just bought one just for the vouchers and the spare frother and gave the machine to my partners dad.
Makes decent coffee, certainly better than the stuff I had from a proper espresso machine in a cafe yesterday.
No doubt coffee can be better, but this is a good compromise.

An Aeropress makes better coffee than any of the coffee pod machines IME
and IMO it doesn't. clearly horses for courses.

Brew it upside down, use freshly ground beans.
