I've recently purchased a nice shiny I phone 3gs only snag is it's O2 and i'm firmly in the Orange camp. I've been told this can overcome by some simple electronic trickery and I may even be able to get a free download (or something) off internet. Anyone any experience of this or should I just take it along to my local shopping centre phone accessory guy and let him do it?

cheers

Oli

Unlocking iPhones isn't normally as simple as most other phones but can normally be done using one of the many tools out on the internet to do it, especially if it's on an older firmware.

Have a google. Or if the person you bought it off was the original owner ask them to contact orange and get it unlocked.

You can use Turbo Sims on older phones.

If you call O2, they will unlock it for you free of charge - the EU made them all offer this as a service at the end of contracts.

I had them do it to my iPhone 4 - took them a couple of hours to send the update.
