Quick question as i have an opportunity to purchase the ambit 2 for much cheapness. Can you take the swim data and load it into garmin connect? All my ride (garmin edge) and swim (garmin swim) activities are stored there and i'd like to keep it there if possible.

I have one but I only use it for running. The Movescount software which is the proprietary website allows you to export the file as a .gpx if that helps. I use it to upload into Strava I suspect you can do the same import into the Garmin connect site.
