Go on recommend something.
Like Sci-Fi of the Ian M Banks type.
Random other stuff including cycling writing.
Have you read China Mieville? He's put out some excellent stuff over the past 10 years. Productive guy, so there are a lot of different books to choose from. Quality can be a bit variable as a result - think he will write a real masterpiece at some point though.
The Scar is his best IMHO - some superb writing and story telling in that one.
I think I'm going to revisit some Ray Bradbury this summer, something like this
M John Harrison's stuff is very good, Banks mentioned him in one of his recent blog posts. Like Banks he produces both hard sci-fi, and fairly brutal contemporary fiction. His short stories are a good place to start. Or get hold of the proper stuff: early Ballard.
It's Iain Banks, btw.
The English Dragon - Tim Bragg....if you like comfort don't read it.
