How wrong is it to wear combat boots with a morning suit?

I realise that a pointy toed italian leather shoe is more appropriate, but is there a boot that lends itself to being polished to death more than others?

No. Just don't do it.

Any suit (and particularly a morning suit) deserves a good pair of shoes, though depending upon the parties (i.e. if they're horsey types) a Chelsea boot is acceptable.

If you really want to wear combat boots, then join the local TA, get hold of a dress uniform, and wear that instead of a morning suit. Don't forget to buy yourself out before you get sent to Afghanistan.
