Can anyone please recommend some good beaches around Mallorca for snorkelling?
We are heading there tomorrow for a week. Not been before. We are staying outside Palma but hiring a car so happy to explore.
There’s not much the kids and I love more than floating around for hours watching the fishies below us - so if anyone can suggest beaches to visit or other places to go that would be appreciated:)
North east corner of the island, just along the coast from Pollensa is Formentor, and nearby Cala Figuera. We really enjoyed those. Formentor is worth a visit just for the beach itself..... http://www.pollensa.life/snorkelling-pollensa-coast/
Carla st Vincent was ok . Didn't sit on the beach but enjoyed the snorkelling.
Go to Cala D’or for the day. It has 3 or 4 small beaches that are sheltered from the sea and perfect for snorkelling. The old town is great for for food as well. My kids love snorkelling there.
Agree with cala st vincente. Saw lots of stuff there including a resident octopus. Village has old school charm too.
I advise getting the Grumering app to see how the jelly fish are about there.
Last few years we have been to Majorca (Cala d’Or) there have been more days where it’s not safe to go into sea because the amount of mauve stinger jelly fish floating about.
At the moment the island is showing plenty there.
South east of the island has some lovely beaches if you look. Follow the coast road from Manacor....
Sa Coma is good flat family beach, if a bit overdeveloped these days , Cala Bona harbour is good for food & a paramble and further east to Costa del los Pinos there’s a little sandy strip ,with ducks!that happens to have an awesome beach bar. My family are refreshed there regularly. 👍😏
Over to Capdepera there are some great sand dunes and lots of Germanic folk .and there’s a great market at Arta.
I visit carla ie Cala San Vicente every year cracking wee beach Cala Molins however unless it is a very calm day the yello flag will be up then possibly the red flag and nobody gets in, the guards are pretty strict
I came across those mauve stingers at cala boquer at the end of June. Very lucky not to get stung. Went in with the snorkel on and dodged about 30 of them making my way back to shore. That was after swimming round without the snorkel totally oblivious to them. Hopefully you won't encounter them!
Cala carbo was lovely. Thankfully no jellies that day.
I always pack a long sleeve rash vest and my leg warmers for when the the stingers are about.
Another vote for Cala d’Or here. We went in June and had a great time; plenty of little family friendly beaches with plenty of snorkelling. Unfortunately I got whacked by one of the mauve stingers mentioned above but no lasting damage done!
Also, if you’re there and looking to eat I highly, highly, highly recommend the vegan restaurant called ‘Treff’. We went simply as it looked interesting - the food’s amazing, well priced, beer’s good (Mallorcan organic wheat beer?!) and staff are really friendly too. 👍🏻
