Looking to go away for a week over the Christmas period. Skiing an option as wife and daughter (16) love it and I am less interested. Ski holiday costs seem bonkers with no guarantee of snow.

Would consider city break.

Anyone had good overseas Xmas holidays?

How far are you wanting to go? Just over to the continental mainland, or would you consider crossing the Atlantic?

If over to the mainland, then I would stick to one of the more beautiful Hanseatic cities.

Skiing would be fantastic, but not so much if, as you say, you are less interested.

There are some less popular options.
- rent a cottage in the UK in a quiet location. We rented one last year at the top of Dentdale with no phone signal or wifi. It was great!
- some friends have been to Bruges and Amsterdam at Xmas in recent years. There are lots of bargains to be had in 4 or 5 star hotels at that time of year.
- if you went to the Vosges or Black Forest, you could go to a small local family friendly ski resort and do some road or MTB routes whilst your family ski.
