I am looking at getting my 2 up-and-over garage doors replaced with electric roller doors. I have had one quote for £3,400, which is more than I was expecting but having nothing to go on I don't know if it's good or not.
(That quote relies on me running power for the door motors and control boxes prior to installation.)

Can anyone who has recently had roller doors fitted comment on that price?

Also, can anyone recommend a reputable company in the SE Wales (Newport) area?

I'm currently getting prices from £1300 to £1700 for a 2.5 metre wide electric roller door. So for 2 doors that's sounds about right for the upper end of my quotes.

Get another quote or two from other tradesmen?

MIL in Essex had her 2 door double garage converted to one wide door this summer with electric roller - 2.5k. Seems pretty pleased with it, looks good although I have not seen it in the flesh (covid).

@Cougar - I intend to. That’s why I asked for recommendations for companies. 🙂

Sounds about right if the price includes VAT

Recommendations from those who've had it done would be most useful.

1200ish all in for sectional up and over powered door. Solent, (Hampshire) area few years ago. Did a top job, insulated and has made a real difference to the garage. think I hit a special offer with the supplier (horman/garadoor) so was I think a pretty decent quote.

I fitted my own earlier this year. The hardest but was cleaning old silicone from the brickwork. Actually fitting the door was a piece of piss. Comfortably under £600 all in.

I've been looking at roller doors for my garage. Had a quote from Action doors. They're doing deals for under 2.5m width. I've used Industrial Door Services in the past with no issues. I'm in the Caerphilly area. They were reasonably priced for the size of the door 01633 853335 There's also Gorilla Doors. Plug in using a 3 pin plug and socket.

I paid £1200 for a single from Skandoor down near Portsmouth.

I have to say I am really pleased with it, so much easier than the old up and over door. I can ping it open from the house when its raining and not have to struggle with all the locks getting wet now 🙂

@dove1

Just about to order one up from Bison

Quote is for a single manual roller to replace an 'up and over' and is £1154. I did have a quote from the Garage door company (national chain) but they wanted more money and full payment before installation.

Dean Garage doors (Coleford) quoted £1560, but that was for an insulted roller, not a straight roller.

A couple of points to look out for, from our experience when our roller door needed repairing/replacing a couple of years ago - first, not all roller doors are the same so in the absence of further detail it's hard to say whether your quotes are reasonable. Ask them about security, a Hormann one we looked at was expensive but had no aspirations of being secure, others have a "secure by design" sticker that may or may not mean anything. "Insulated" seems to mean whatever they want it to mean; turns out that our old one that wasn't sold as being insulated when it was installed is now sold as insulated. Second, roller garage doors seem to be the new double glazing - relatively cheap product (you can buy the bits to do it yourself for about £500) with large initial quotes "only valid if you sign up now" that come down if you push hard enough. Our helpful local installer is now basically a call centre with little interest in the product, just finding sales leads.

I couldn't stand dealing with them so we fixed ours rather than having it replaced.

Not sure if they cover Newport (they're based in Merthyr so probably would) but 15-20 years ago my Dad used these https://www.dhughesrollerdoors.co.uk/ for a double garage door (it's over 4 metres wide and he reckons it was under £1k at the time). He's only had one issue since and they replaced the control box the same day he called them apparently

Two of my neighbours have had their's replaced in the past 18 months and paid just over approx £3.5k from memory. This was for 2 x Single Doors, new frames and all electrical work.

Both used a local firm who supplied Horman doors and despite the above comment they seem pretty secure to me. These are sectional doors, not roller, and both have had a glazed top section. I think the door sections are about 50mm thick and insulation with foam.

One had a horrible golden oak colour and the other was white. I did ask the owner of the white doors what colour he was going to paint them as they look rather plain.

@Marko - It is Bison that have quoted for me so far (for insulated roller doors). They are a local company so I would like to use them but just need to make sure their price is right.

@Mattbike - I'm waiting for a call back from Action Doors to arrange for them to come and measure up for a quote.

@FuzzyWuzzy - I have just called D Hughes and they are happy to quote for Newport so waiting for them to call back with a time to visit.

Thanks, all. I appreciate everyone taking the time to reply. 🙂

That's a nice touch. As my Dad used to say, 'manners maketh man' 👍
