It's that time for me again when my trusty jacket has given up the ghost due to a combination fo use, thorns and more use so what's the go to at the moment?

It needs to be breathable as I ride off-road only normally 20-50 miles, night and day but not worried about reflectives as off-road, I don't need it to be waterproof as have a Endura MT shell for that.

It's already starting to get cold with a ride that was 3 degree last night so was thinking something maybe fleecy or thin insulation like primaloft but have no real world experience with either.

Any views, ideas or suggestions? What do you use?

Ta

James

Been using an Endura softshell jacket for the last couple of winters. Mine is black with reflective piping. I use it with just a base layer when the temperature is between 10 and freezing and extra mid layer when it’s below freezing and it keeps me comfortable. At around 70 euros it’s also a lot cheaper than a lot of the supposed technical jackets.

I bought a polaris enduro when they were on offer. They also do the tor which looks to be quilted.

It's interesting you mention the Gore Phantom as that what I had until it has finally died after many (many, many) years - perhaps another but they are heinously expensive ...

The Endura could be a good call, sounds like a Windchill, as I have a lot of their kit and it works well - think it's the Scottish heritage and will check out the other two suggestions thanks

I reckon worth it for the performance and longevity, mine is over 10 years old now.

I'll only wear a fleecy jacket in minus temperatures. Layering is better, I reckon, anything with fleece gets too hot. Layers and a windproof shell jacket from a brand/design you thinnk is pretty.
Nobody Erm, very few people agree(s) on a single jacket on here, that is fer shur 😛

PX Magma with a suitable base layer and gilet does me for most of winter.

I've got a gore phantom which is several years old and still going strong apart from having had to replace the main zip. If for some reason it ever became unusable I would buy another one instantly.
