having huge problems getting pages to load with the 'Singletrack TV' Adobe thing on them.

Each page hangs for about 90 seconds then I get an 'Adobe Plugin has crashed message'.
This is in both IE and Firefox so I don't think it's a browser issue and I've just downloaded and installed the latest Adobe release to no effect.

Anyone else having problems?

an unmentionable add-in has fixed the problem at my end in a robust way.
I guess a modmail is in order to get someone to look at it.

EDIT: have emailed mods to get a message sent to the web monkey.

yep, i'm having this problem... kills IE8 completely. iPhone can cope.

Dave

seems i've been moderated - what I said was that it copes in firefox portable, but only if the flash is in some way magically disabled.

Yep. Its killed IE8 and Chrome.

Seems only if the flash is in another window?
Oh well, that'll keep me off the forum.

Sorry about that folks. That'll teach me to use third party plugins. I'll build my own javascript version when I get a chance.

Well, I've just uninstalled Flash (and Shockwave).

I didn't make the connection between the problem and STW as I have about 20 tabs open at any given moment, and needed to get Firefox stable.

I had an epiphany this morning: I'm sick to death of Flash. Between constant massive security flaws, almost daily updates, instability, better solutions being available, many (mostly Apple) products not supporting it, its prolific use in really annoying adverts, and now the final straw being Adobe themselves saying they're getting rid of it, I think it was a product of its time and that time has definitely passed.

Who's with me?

Who's with me?

[treads carefully as this isn't about ad blocking]

there's a few sites I visit on my iphone where I note flash's absence but stw isn't one of them.

I'll probably stick with it for now but it can be frustrating.

[edit] lol at the swear filter substitution for the word I really typed 🙂

Hi wwaswas,
Apart from the ads - which you can turn of as a premier user, and the Vimeo plugin - which I have now removed. Where is this site using Flash?

Am I missing something?

All our videos are HTML5 where possible.

Confused??

Hi Patrick - sorry, what I meant was that stw works fine without flash but there's some other sites where they use it and I notice if my browser doesn't support it so I probably won't uninstall it for now.

Glad you're not freeloading

I'm not allowed to comment on that 🙂

Sorry about confusion - should slow down and read things properly.
Yes, Flash dependancy is a no-no for me. When I find time I'll try to rebuild the Vimeo sidebar as HTML5/Javascript with a Flash fallback for older browsers.
