Well I've been looking for a modern classic for a while and always wanted one and at £2000 i thought what could go wrong 🙂

Drove 300 mile back from Aberdeen last week and touch wood it was a remarkable success no malfunctions or breakdowns.

Anybody else made the same rash decision

Please let it be a V6.

My 407SW is 13years old now, just had it's first truly spectacular MoT failure, suspension bits were goosed on all 4 corners, despite it feeling absolutely fine to drive. £300odd on parts (rear springs, arb links and front lower ball joints) and tools (sockets) later and it passed second time with flying colours.

French cars are both great and terrible, often at the same time!

I knew a chap who sold his Mk1 Exige to buy one. We don't speak anymore. 😉

I saw a Vel Satis in France last week. I'd completely forgotten they existed!

I just don’t recognise that at all! I thought I was fairly familiar with most cars on our roads, but that one is a complete mystery. And it’s about the same age as my, now sadly written-off, Octavia.

Wasn't there only about 200 sold apparently there wasn't a demand for a 3 door "performance" people carrier

Worth it for the door hinge mechanism alone!

Desperately needs original wheels but otherwise very nice indeed.

Still miss my 306gti6 and 406v6 occasionally.

Mechanically they kept me busy but both were lovely cars (with a useful amount of go).

The Vel Satis is a genuine rarity, nice find OP except the wheels.

You can't put a roofrack on them nor a rear mount bike rack - possibly not a tow bar either so carrying bikes might be a bit difficult?

Nice, apart from the colour.  A family where I used to live had one in that metallic blue hot Clios come in and it looked fantastic!

Definitely get some OE wheels for it though, although where you'd find some in the UK is a mystery.  Might have to resort to Ebay.fr.

Brilliant thing, love it 👍👍👍

Bloke up river has a blue/white original one and its a daily driver too.

I always thought them to be a good looking solution to a typically mundain problem.

Love the Avantime. It was so bonkers, only the French would take a people carrier and stick a 2 door coupe body on it.

We had a same vintage VelSatis for a while. It was a very comfortable car to drive but the 100 litre fuel tank was expensive to fill from empty and in fact a couple of times I had to stop pay and then restart as I had hit the £99 limit.

That is very cool in my opinion.

A local it company ran a couple of them as pool/service cars a few years ago, looked really smart in dark blue with silver roof & pillars.

I’d have one. That’s the sort of crazy stuff I love about the French motor industry, not the bland forgettable modern stuff they do.

Beginning to be seen as future classics (given their style and relative rarity - only 8500 were ever made).Less than 200 left in the uk https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=renault+avantime&commit=Search

Cant be any worse than my 13 yo Scenic. I think I'd have that in preference. They predate the Mk2 Scenic by a couple of years and clearly the Mk2 was styled taking its cues from the Avantime.

What engine has yours got OP?

Yes it was bought from a guy in Stuartfield he’s got the nicest one I’ve seen.

its the 2.0 turbo one as I couldn’t find a 3.0 when I’ve had the money.

its a lovely car it’s like driving a conservatory there’s so much glass.

yes the wheels are getting replaced as soon as some appear. I also ended up with the 2.0 as it’s much cheaper running costs as in typical French fashion in the 3.0 it’s easier to take the engine out to change the spark plugs 🙂
