Apart from Jools Holland I don't know of any music on normal telly. The Tube was a must see even if it was to moan about how crap it was up the pub.
It now seems amazing that I could watch Killing Joke on telly while having my tea. I miss it.
The Beat, too. And 625 Live
And let's resurrect Murun Buchstansangur while we're at it.
The Tube was great at the time, but that time has passed. It is generally a mistake to bring back tv programs or for bands to reform. Lets make something original instead
Even I couldn't get stoned enough to think the Tube was good. This is one of those things that need to be left exactly where they were.
Network 7 innit
lets not forget the word 😀
terry christian, amanda de cadenet, dani behr, katie puckrick, huffty(?), mark lamarr and 'bruiser' or someone was it??
The Word isn't a bad idea, someone tweet Terry Christian.
Sod that.
I want eurotrash back. That was a great program
Stuff that bring back.
Filmed in the same studio as The Tube.
i was in the audience for a couple of editions of the tube; the one with Ozzy on it and the one with Twisted Sister on. it was weird but great.
who could forget the interview between Mark Lamarr and Shabba Ranks on the Word.
My mate's dad designed the 'Tube' logo.
And I remember watching the episode with Frankie on doing 'Relax' in leather fetish wear - I was just sat there thinking WTBF????

Me - will search it out.
Do we need The Tube now we have Jools's show?
TFI Friday will be good - except for U2.
I went to see 2 episodes of the Tube recorded in Newcastle back in the 80s, I absolutely loved watching it every Friday.
But please don't bring it back, it just wouldn't be relevant anymore.
I liked 'The White Room' for live music back in the early 90's but it didn't last too long.
bring back top of the pops.
But please don't bring it back, it just wouldn't be relevant anymore.
I'm struggling to see the logic, assuming that if it came back it would still showcase new acts / music?
Obviously, if it came back as a nostalgia show for 40-somethings with a lineup from the "where are they now?" 1980s package tour circuit I'd agree.
TBH, the risk for us lot is that they'd bring it back now and we'd all point at it and go "this is rubbish! Call that music? In my day bands wrote their own songs and played PROPER instruments! I've never heard of any of these idiots in their ridiculous clothes, bunch of poseurs!" and then realise that yes, we've all turned into our dads*..
*see previous threads, including Kanye @ Glasto, and the one about how rubbish Rizzle Kicks are (the latter started, iirc, after they sampled an EMF song**)
**I can't quite remember which of the many, many EMF songs that made an impact on the popular consciousness it was right now, I'm sure it'll come back to me..
As a person of a certain age being a student at the time of the Tube was perfect, I hardly missed an episode. So many great memories of the show. RIP Paula.

Precisely one series iirc. Artists liked that one too, as they encouraged new music and the established stars didn't have to trot out too many worn out hits as part of the deal - something I think Jools' show did subsequently take on board to some extent.
I remember Bowie talking about it and said something along the lines of "I got to do three new songs for one "Heroes"" - which was a good deal for him as iirc at the time he promoting Tin Machine..

I'm not sure I believe you 🙂
Was it 'I Believe' they sampled?I'm not sure I believe you
White Room was very good, but they did have bands on that I loved. I liked The Tube and I enjoyed re-runs of the Old Grey Whistle Test too.

That depends entirely on whether the band has something new to offer, considering there to be unfinished business.
Gang Of Four are back out touring with a new album, I'm thrilled to bits to see that Lush are back together, with a hint there may be new music; they split after their drummer died, Miki has said that was the only reason, and their influence is clear with new bands like Fever Dream and pinkshineyultrablast who I saw last week.
Even if it's just to make money, if there's a fanbase that wants to see a particular band, and they perform well, who are you to criticise?
unbelievable 🙂
The Tube was good for bands playing in front of a hostile crowd Dee Snider of Twisted Sister was entertaining in this regard. Warrant were another.
Was it the Tube or the Word where I first saw Zodiac Mindwarp playing Psychoactive?
Blimey, The Word. It was rubbish but just had a brief youtube sojourn with...
I almost feel a bit sorry for Mark Lamarr though.
nah, not the Tube, it was good but we need the Whistle Test back. Proper music.
I was at a few recording of the Tube: Gary Moore / Bon jovi / Hanoi Rocks / Damned / Big Country. Was fun to go to.
