Thought this might be a good place to ask!

So far had a 'we only fit stoves we sell' and another who came but hasn't got back to us with an actual quote!

Also any idea of a ballpark figure of what we can expect to pay? Fire place will be finished by myself. We will need a twin wall chimny put through the roof as the old chimny finishes in the loft. Just needs connecting up apart from that.

Cheers!

I used TFS Stoves and Slackalice on here did the fitting. Great job!

Portsmouth though, but it would be worth giving them a call anyway. Good price for the stove too, cheaper than I could get from anywhere else.

I got my stove through Wakeford Fires in Send. The fitter was a guy called Mark who had previously given me a quote to fit a self bought stove. I don't know if they would give you his number, but it might be worth a try.

Sorry, had to re-write the original post and forgot to say we already have the stove.

I'll give Wakeford Fires a call then thanks!

Ladders, I'll contact a mate of mine who may know his contact details if you get no luck with Wakefords.

Cheers!

Other guy has got back to me - £1650, plus the cost of scaffolding! Is that a good price? 😕

The best thing I did was get mine fitted by the plumber I had working at my house already. He was a fraction of the price of the place I was originally going to buy my stove from (I did give him a hand and setup a small scaffold myself though).
Too many of these so called fitters charge way too much, for what is usually a straightforward job.

Edit: I know not many folk will work at height without a scaffold now, but it's often not necessary for how little time is spent on the roof and how few materials are needed up there. I only set a scaffold up to keep the fitter off my tiles - he was going to do it without.

I presume he couldn't certify it at the end though?

To be honest I would like to give it a go myself, the lack of chimney complicates things a bit though! I've read the stove fitters manual website, and while I'm not going to say it looks straightforward, as I think that discredits people who do it for a living, it does look like something someone competent can do.

Just for background I worked for a friend at her plumbing company for a year and have helped install flue liners etc so have some diy skillz!

The bloke had all the proper tickets - I wouldn't have used him otherwise, although my stove is gas if that makes a difference? The main reason I saved money was because he just charged me his standard hourly rate, rather than giving me a price. I have no chimney either, but as I live in a bungalow, only needed a few metres of flue.

Does that hearth extend by at least 300mm from the face of the stove? 😉

Maybe its just the perspective...

Gas stove, totally different flue system and hearth requirements.
£1650 sounds reasonable but depends on quality of materials. I don't use the really cheap stuff so would be a bit more expensive (probably!) but not much.
Sadly don't cover Guildford though!

Thanks Timmer, good to know that's what I should be expecting to pay

Mats Willingson on 07999848844.
He's in Onslow Village.
I've no idea what his stove fitting is like but he's an honest friendly bloke.
I bought a car off him and don't regret it.

Edit: I'm assuming it'sa wood burning stove?
It usually is round here...
