I work at a bicycle shop in Manchester, and this Jones titanium bike came in for a puncture repair. It was brought in by a girl who's just using it around town, loaned by a friend. It seems weird as you don't just prance about town on a £5,000+ bike, especially something like this.

I felt it was worth throwing it up online on the slim chance that this is a stolen bike.

If anybody knows anything, send a message ASAP.

I'd be a bit miffed if I took a bike into the LBS only for them to post pictures of it online and accuse me of stealing it...

Could it be it was already stolen. She brings it in. Her mate nicks it again. Boosh, £5k insurance fraud.
Or is that just my mind.

What butcher said.

Does seem an odd bike to pootle around town on though. I suspect any nicked Jones' would be pretty well known though...

I'd guess if someone had a Jones stolen they'd report to the police so can't you give them the frame number to check?

You have that bike do you lend it to anybody? Do you need a LBS to fix a flat?

If it is kosher then wow the world is so full of surprises

PS If you were concerned as a shop owner could you not ask the police rather than post?

I expect that like all jones bikes, it has been bought by someone with a fundamental lack of understanding of what a bike is and how the frame should work...

... still, at least it has been built by a beard wielding man with a waiting list eh?

;P

Oooh, are you offended?

Not offended. And if it is stolen, I hope whomever it belongs to gets it back.

But just asking if anyone had one stolen would be enough. Enquire within. It's not like there's that many.

Thing is that she probably has no idea of its value and there are some well off people who wouldn't bat an eyelid at lending out a £5k bike. I know people that lend friends £50k+ cars or ask them to drop them off etc. They are just not bothered by it, I'd say that if she thought it was hookey she would not have taken it to a shop especially for a puncture. It can just be a bit of a mad world!

The pedals do not match ... A bit like a Ferrari with cheapo event tyres innit.

Ya, high possibility it is stolen.

Can't someone quickly call the police if it is stolen?

Then can we auction the girl off like in "Taken"?

I'm 99.9% certain that's my bike.. I'd need to check back for frame number but the Phil Wood hubs, hope brakes, modded crank together with dura ace thumbies, brooks saddle, Erikson post, prob six spd give it away. I knew someone didn't know what they nicked. Is next stop Police???

Well, no, but suggesting that we should arrange to get Albanian gangsters to kidnap the (probably oblivious) girl who dropped the bike off seems completely beyond the pale.

I'm offended by the amount of offended posts here!

I've dropped a line to one of STW's crimefighters to see if they're available to support.

Jesus Son of Mary! FFS! Do you have to be offended? It's Friday evening you know. Nobody get offended on Friday and Saturday because that's off day for being offended. 😈

I am happy that the bike is found! 🙄

Back when I used to run a shop in London, we quarantined many bikes in similar circumstances, and then rang the local constabulary who were most helpful in reuniting stolen bikes with rightful owners. Here's hoping that this turns out that way too!

Plot twist: CFH's shop was a florists. He was a rogue agent operating outside of his jurisdiction.

Jesus. 4 years ago...

I can only imagine the kind of joy chainline is feeling right now at the prospect of potentially getting his bike back because regardless of how beardey it is, its a bike thats obviously been put together with a lot of love, attention and money. And some lowlife scum thought it was theirs to nick.

I'd be interested to hear if the cops speak to this 'friend' who lent her the bike (ideally with a warrant to search their house).

I'm genuinely surprised this is still in the country/being used as a runabout by someone. As per the original thread, I would have thought a bike like this would have been nicked to order, and not just taken by an opportunist.

...unless, ironically, it has since been stolen from the original thieves.

How far is the location from the real owner to this bike shop? I want to know how far this bike has traveled or stolen from.

Thank you.

I bet it was sold several times during this 4 years because this bike is simply too hot to keep for long without being noticed ... even across the world.

It's still in the shop, for the puncture repair. Trust me it will not be leaving the store except for with the police or Chainline! We've had this before. We'll just tell 'em we haven't fixed it yet and to come back in 20min.....which is when the police will arrive!!

Amazing. I have spoken to police. Can't remember where the frame number is!! Singles predate or another early Hones owner so it can be checked in the shop.got to try and find the original receipts and emails. Chase down original crime ref if possible.. No doubt it's mine tho. That one was a labour of love, hours spent on the phone to Jeff....just can't believe it tbh!

If you claimed on insurance and it has been through a few owners all you are doing is bringing misery to an innocent owner.

Plus why did you leave 'a labour of love' /thousands of pounds in a garage?

Flame me but I dont 'get' spending lots on bikes then effectively leaving them outside.
