Hi,

I want to do some trading on line but a little over whelmed with the variety of sites. Which one would be a good start off point and cheap to sell / buy.

Any advice welcomed.

Tradefair for spread betting 😉 Use the demo platform for a while, you get £10k virtual spend.

I use IG Index for spread betting.

If you're thinking of investing in equities and want to build a portfolio you could look at something like a Halifax Sharebuilder account. They let you buy at set times of the month for £2 commission instead of buying instantly at £15. It's a good way of building a portfolio over time and paying less.

When I used to fiddle about with buying/selling shares I used iii.co.uk

I don't bother now as I don't think I have the mentality to let things ride. I used to be checking my shares every 30 mins.....

Who do you bank with? Probably easiest to set-up on-line share-dealing with them.

I use Level 2 Direct Access. You can trade on the American markets in the evening after work.

I used to be checking my shares every 30 mins.....

Way too long a time frame for me. I have to be watching constantly.

I started using iweb-sharedealing earlier on this year. I set myself up and was trading within about 10 mins. Not sold using them yet, but the buying process seemed okay.

www.iii.co.uk for me, maybe use the regular investment tool, that lets you invest on a set day each month for £1ish a trade, and normal trades are resonable too. Lots of tools/discussion too, and I've always had good service from them.

Thinking about doing the same for myself and have been recommended sharecentre.com. As with othersimilar sites, a dummy account can be set up with £15k.

It also seems to have quite an extensive resource of information on types of investments, market sectors and buy/sell suggestions. I'm still at the reading it stage, so will also check out the other sites mentioned in this thread.

Thanks all.
