Any help from the DIY'ers / plumbers appreciated.

For a while now my shower has been emmitting nasty smells after I've had a shower (soil stack type smells).

I've put a bottle of chemicals down the shower, and then some bi-carb / vinegar in an effort to cleanse the bottle trap.

This hasnt worked.

I've now added a U-bend into the waste pipe on the outside of the house before it enters the soil stack - I considered this an easier option than removing the shower tray to replace bottle trap located there.

The bathroom still stinks after every shower - and Im at a loss how to stop it now - I'd have thought the U-bend between the shower & the soil stack should prevent any 'backwash' of smells into the bathroom?

is there water in the u-bend?

if there's 'suck' going on in the soil stack and it's not vented then it will pull water out of any ubends in the system when it draws air through.

Flushign a toilet or similar can put enough vacuum in the system to pull water out of ubends if there's a blocked vent or no vent.

Blockage (possibly partial) in the soil stack?

Stop pissing in it?

Worth trying soda crystals!

Should add, it's on a combi, so no HW tank

I would remove the tray. I had the same and found the water had been leaking out under the tray. Fixed the leak and left the whole lot exposed for the floor to thoroughly dry. seemd to fix it.

Have you plunged the ubend a few times to flush any nasties out? there may be a hair monster full of rotted soap and skin attached to the plughole.
