Can't help on the drive system, I'm afraid, but the subs in the Stingray fleet, (Moray, Thornback, etc), could apparently hit 600 knots, and dive to 36000 ft when fully pressurised. There's prolly something in an old Century21 comic somewhere. My info came from Wiki...
If no-one can help (thanks for trying CountZero) I am going to have to Sky+ Stingray and watch it until I find out. I should not be Sky+ing Stingray at my age! Although I cannot think why not actually...
