Even though he is the family tick magnet, this is a big one by his standards. I swear I could hear it slurping...

They are indeed, pulled one off the dog on Sunday and another yesterday.
Lots about they should be gone by now, our place is infested with them,10 years ago you never saw any, same with horse flys and we have no horses or sheep.
It's not been too bad this year for us. Cat number 2 brought one in almost every day last year. This year virtually none.

They are never not about - you can get them at any time of year but theres apparently two peak 'seasons' - March-June and August-November so nothing unusual about them being about just now.
Although it seems to me those two seasons are so close together they might as well be one
