Just seen on twitter but thought it would go down a treat on here.

If you choose an answer to this question at random, what is the chance it will be correct:

A) 25%
B) 50%
C) 60%
D) 25%

Think I heard on the radio earlier that 7/5th of the UK population didn't understand fractions.

50% if the answer is A or D.
25% if it is B or C.

Of course it is actually a probability question.

There are 10 types of people in the world; those that understand binary and those that don't.

It is a probability question....

So your chance of guessing correctly depends upon the number of times you are allowed to guess and the number of potential answers.

We get 1 guess and there are 4 possible answers.

Therefore the answer is 1/4 or 25%

7/5th is still a fraction, albeit an Improper one... 😉

Is it statistically impossible to be correct i.e. there is 0% chance of it being correct?

You have a 1/4 chance of getting the 'correct' answer but as 2 answers represent 25%, there is actually a 50% chance of choosing that answer at random.

I got a t-shirt made up that said 2, seems only I thought it was funny.

My head hurts!

Surely there is no answer? it's some kind of paradox

You have a 1/4 chance of getting the 'correct' answer but as 2 answers represent 25%, there is actually a 50% chance of choosing that answer at random.

... in which case the other two 25% answers aren't correct ... so the answer is 50% but there is only a 25% chance of choosing that random...

If you're choosing a random answer, who says it has to be one of the 4 on offer?
