Upgraded to a solid stae, fresh Windows install using Iso image and my windows key. Any issues plugging the old hd in with a caddy if its got the same version of windows on it? Presuming it won't boot from the old unless settings changed in BIOS but can I transfer files across etc?

As long as your boot priorities are right, it'll be fine- it'll boot from the first copy of windows it finds, basically, which might be your caddy or might be your permanent drive.

No and yes. Although as Northwind says it might be configured to boot from a USB drive by default. Just don't plug it in until the computer's already booted.

Any guesses why its not showing in My Computer? Windows 7, 640gb 2.5 hdd via a cheap usb-sata caddy (aware this could be the issue but it powers the hdd up). Hdd worked grand yesterday in the laptop
