MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
We have just moved into a cottage, 2 real fires...although the one in the dining room has been blocked up. The house is small enough for the one in the living room to heat the whole ground floor though...
So, we fancy stacking some nicely, neatly chopped wood in the unused fireplace.
We had a stove at the old place, but the wood I used to buy was raggedy offcuts...no way of making it look pretty.
What am I looking for/asking for when trying to get wood?
Struggling to do images on phone, but google image search 'wood stacked in fireplace' to get an idea. Or just imagine it...whatever's easier 😉
Erm, ask for pretty wood.
Wood from garden centres is usually fairly uniform....you could even go Artisan and buy the olive wood sold in hessian bags.
Seriously? Just pile it up and burn the stuff. The less wood store i the house you have the less bugs and grubs will be in the building too.
As Ambrose said. However if you want to do it, and avoid the bugs, buy kiln dried logs.
A brave post...will be interested to see how much of a 'flaming' you've had by the morning! Good luck.

There are bugs, insects, rabbits, birds everywhere. A few crawling out of the wood pile won't bother me.
Normally our wood comes from a guy with a flat bed transit. Not sure he knows how to cut it straight...
Ed and Brant's new project ?
Now, if Ed and Brant were to single handed my revive the local wood industry...I'd be all ears.
If you want neat, round and uniform logs, try to find some birch logs.
Viagra won't help, that just stops people rolling out of bed....
B.A Nana, looks nice but why the clock radio speakers?
Perfect excuse to buy a bow saw and an axe.
(I can put you in touch with head Ranger at Kinver and we can sell you some, won't be all uniform though, unless you pay me extra to do it 😛 )

There is an incredible similarity in tone and content between the "firewood" vid and the "trousers" vid though 😆
Makes me wonder which one is the spoof and which one is real.
Houns; I'm local and actually would LOVE to buy some firewood from Kinver; not bothered in the slightest about shape; it all ends up the same! Email or PM would be most welcome 8)

And is that turntable not isolated from the vibrations of the amp?
*shudder*
😆
We buy a ton bag of mixed hardwood from our neighbour farmer and stack most of it in the log store, but I keep back a few nice bits for stacking along side the stove for that final dryout.
Try ReservoirLogs or TheLogMan online... or just Google decorative logs. There's quite a few online places selling this kind of thing.... pricey though!
was at a friend house during a party and we needed more wood for the chiminea, so I grabbed it from the homes fire place... to be told later that it wasn't actually wood for burning, just decoration... (I did not feel bad for burning it)

Looks nice and provides no noticeable performance benefit, in fact may perform worse than the common or garden/aldi equivalent? Only quantifiably better at allowing you peer down your nose at those who don't know how much it costs so can't notice the benefit?
Got to be at least 1 STW thread a week on that already.
