That's going to be a right humdinger to sort out. Think it's going to need to be a super extended version this year!

Got to be Wiggo. Winning the TdF is a humungous and unprecedented achievement, and that, allied to the TT gold medal, should make him a shoo-in. Added to which, he actually has some personality.

Although Jess Ennis might get it in the interests of keeping both sexes happy.

Team Sky for the win .It cant be the whole olympic team as many have not done much of note .They may have tried hard which is commendable but ultimately failed

A bit harsh, for people who are the best in Great Britain at whatever sport they do ?

Serious question, will Team GB be an entry? Or is it too big a team.

I hope not. Way too 'happy clappy' and lame an entry.

Spoty rewards success not failure though it may be harsh and you quote me out of context but its not an award for first round losers and failing at the first hurdle ,maybe the rowers and the cyclists could share it ?

At least one bookie is already paying out on Wiggins, in the news somewhere yesterday.

The context was 1" above if anyone missed it.

Didn't see the point in quoting the whole post when I was only referring to one bit of it.

been watching the odds. Wiggo was 1/7 a few days ago, 2/5 now.
Jess was 10/1, now 7/2.
Wiggo's still clear favourite, but my money's already on Jess ๐Ÿ™‚
It's a public vote. Reckon the "cycling vote" could possibly be split between half a dozen, they've all been brilliant. Depends how many are on the shortlist

SPOTY will be Wiggins vs Ennis. Nobody else comes close.

I suspect Ennis will win as she's captured the nations attention to a greater degree than Wiggins.

Awesome performances from both this year, not to mention the wider Team GB competitors.

At least it will not be a monotone, overpaid talentless footballer, it will be someone who has worked uber hard and gained the respect of the British public.

Wiggins for me but the coverage Jess will receive may swing the housewife vote.

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/wiggo-for-sports-personality-of-the-year-surley

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/olympic-tt-thread-spoilers-within

and what I said there 4 days ago...

Three letters say Wiggins wont win SPOTY despite his stunning Year. S. K. Y. The beeb referred to the tour (covered by rival network) as a great prep for the olympics (covered by them), I'm too cynical to think we will see loads of coverage of arch rival SKY-emblazoned kit dominating a centrepiece of the beeb's annual programming.

I hope I'm wrong, but there's a dozen other sports (Andy Murray winning our hearts by losing wimbledon) and possible olympic stories that could eclipse him as far as the beeb and the press is concerned.

Duh! It's a public vote!

Duh, like I said, I'm a cynic. What independent body collates the votes? Not like there's ever been any controversy over viewing public voting, viewer competitions and phone-ins is it?

Although can't see how it could possibly go to anyone but the golden sideburns this year

Freshly-embraced Andy Murray progressing to a medal? Tom daley in the solo dive, after losing his dad and the twitter bullying? Double-bereaved Taekwondo Sarah Stevenson getting gold? Like I said, I think Wiggins is the stand-out sports story of the year and would love to be proved wrong. I'm also cynical and aware there's lots of time for another story to grip the general public's imagination, and the beeb management would rather bathe in their own p--- than promote a Murdoch enterprise.

Hope I'm wrong but cycling is still less a part of the public consciousness than say athletics, and people seem to have short memories.

Let alone sports personality, but man of the century...Oscar Pistorius.
Not long ago a person like him would be a poor sod confined to a wheel chair.
He's running the in the Olympics. Completely amazing, how much hope must he give to people in similar situations?
Inspiring.

Men's Gymnastics Team for team of the year surely - WAY above expectations. The cyclists are doing as expected.

Should be Brad considering what he's achieved over the whole year however I can see it going to Ennis as she's probably slightly more popular with the public and a cyclist won it last time. Well deserved either way though really.
