Just had the pleasure of watching The Great Wall and Colossal.
I knew nothing about either film, hadn't seen a trailer or looked on IMDB.
Both were enjoyable, The Great Wall I really (rerally) liked and Anne Hathaway is rather watchable.
Takes me back to being a lad when all you knew about a film was who the star was. Unless you'd read the book.
Death to trailers!
I've had a few films genuinely ruined for me in the past (as in they show you all the surprises and/or best bits) by trailers so try to avoid them now if it's a film that I have any interest in at all. Having said that if it's something like Fast & Furious or Star Wars I just watch it as you know exactly what you're going to get anyway & the hype generated by the trailers can add to the enjoyment!
In contrast I saw something on Amazon Prime the other day that was totally mis-represented by the blurb and even the very category it was listed in. As a result the way it panned out was a total surprise, shock even; genuinely one of the most unexpected and moving films I've ever seen. The effect would've been utterly ruined had I been pre-warned in any way. Wish that type of thing would happen more often as it really adds to the impact of the film-watching experience to be so totally wrong-footed but it's definitely a once-in-a-blue-moon event.
