Virgin trains surprisingly enough, was about to walk to the machine but they were in use so asked at the counter in Glasgow and basically got the it could be £70 but... I don't want to sell you that one, how about £39? Sound good?

Next up lets just have the cheapest price as the standard available ticket please!!

Yep, my local station have been doing that for a while, not Virgin but London Midland. The fella in the ticket office seems to take great pride in finding the cheapest way of getting somewhere.

Train ticketing is a national disgrace. It should not be that complicated and cheapest option should be default.

As a rail worker of 10 years ticketing is an absolute joke, when I worked for virgin I used to find as many ways to get customers the cheapest way home.

If you see advanced VT tickets for £13 Manchester to London they get more money from it than an £70 off peak. Shambles.

Travelling to Oxford from Haslmere. A ticket to Guildford and a separate ticket from Guildford to Oxford cheaper than buying a straight through ticket. Money I saved was almost enough to buy a coffee on the train!

If I travel from belper to Birmingham and return the derby Birmingham part of the journey is cheaper even though it's about 70 miles as opposed to anout 12. Utter bollox

And replacement buses you can load a bike onto, even if it means pre-booking this luxury. Muddy bikes.

This is the thing that really grinds my gears, even in USA where petrol is king buses have had external bike racks for decades. But we just cannot manage that in UK.
