Okay, we can all spot spider webs, a marvel of the animal kingdom. However, a discussion has arisen. Are cobwebs just old spider webs which have attracted dust or are cobwebs an accumulation of dust with no spider influence but just called webs due to a visual similarity?

Sorry,

But yeah, I always thought that cobwebs were just dusty auld spider webs that may've collapsed a bit. The spider may still hang out there, or not... dunno.

The general consensus according to wider interweb wisdom is that they are one and the same ... the 'cob' reference is ye auld English for spider.
