MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Acer v Hp
So which is better build quality and reliability wise.
Spec is the same on both
In the complete absence of any useful information whatsoever, I'd say HP.
Lol sorry Cougar I'd put up a link to both but on my phone at the moment and it's just to much of a faf to do it
Thanks for the advice though
Both core i5
6GB ram
750GB HD not sure about the rest
Sorry scrub that it was Asus not Acer
You need to think more about the support you will get if it breaks and main components like processor and memory capabilities.
Its okay having 6 Gb of RAM but does it have a 64 bit OS to use that RAM? If it has a 750 Gb HDD, do you need that much or could you get a faster spinning drive wiht a bit less storage for the same money?
What screen sizes are you looking at?
edit: for what its worth I wouldn't worry too much about Asus or HP.
what are the graphics? if it's not dedicated some of the ram is going that way and the performance will not be as good.
What are you using it for?
BTW HP are leaving the hardware market
HP are leaving the hardware market
They're leaving the consumer hardware market. They'll probably sell off the PC division (which isn't necessarily a disaster; cf. IBM / Lenovo).
Depends on the model. Asus always seemed better made than some HP models. Another thing for Asus is that they give 2 years warranty on their laptops as standard (but not sure if on all models).
I did have a HP Pavilion DV6. It was a pretty good spec at the time. However it was heavy, not comfortable to keep on your lap due to heat, not that well made and the shiny mirror like finish on the touchpad looked shit. Also thing with powerful laptops, you'll struggle to get more then 3h use out of it. HP still works 4 years on, sold it to my uncle, and it works worry free. One thing to consider is that HP puts a lot of crap software on it that slows the computer down. Not as much as Sony on it's Vaio, but still plenty.
If I could get similar spec Asus with the 2 year warranty, then I would buy an Asus and not the HP.
Actually I've just noticed it the same Hp as the one in the other Laptop thread
The HP DV7 Media Centre laptop I'm typing on has been awesome - except now, after 18 months, the battery won't last more than an hour.
*reminds oneself to Google for new one*
MBoy to the thread please!!
Asus over HP anyday. HP customer service was dire when my TX series laptop failed just after the warranty expired despite there been a known fault, Google it before parting money with HP.
