i've always loved "American Girl" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

but at the risk of setting off another round of beatles related rowing

Opening chord from "A Hard Days Night"

or

"You Really Got Me" by the Kinks

For me the most recognisable - can spot it in a crowded room.

Celebrity Skin by Hole (but probably written by Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins who was dating Courtney Love at the time) - definitely the best into ever...

From out of Nowhere - Faith No More

I remember exactly when I first heard it;

A mate lent me the tape. I put it in my walkman and hit play. I stepped out of the front door and closed it just as the lead-tape ended and that riff kicked in. I bounced all the way to Uni.

Club Tropicana by Wham.

It's the perfect evocation of driving to a nightclub then hearing the music as stilettos clip clop on the way in and the insects buzz in the trees.

Takes me back to the days I could stay up that late.

I'm sure there's a really good Velvet Underground one that was used in a car tyre ad but as for al the other great intros that must be out there I've drawn a creative blank right now.

Hard Day's Night was quite good for mixing a piano chord with a guitar chord (probably) and of course I love Voodoo Chile when watched as part of Withnail and I when they are driving up north.

Some great tunes and some great intros posted up here ("Undertones - Teenage Kicks - an all time favourite - straight to the point" its the riff its not an intro- one of the best 3minutes of time ever thou.)

But the best intro in the world ever (as mentioned above) is...
Give me Shelter by the stones. It just is..umk!

Best accomponied only with the footage from "letters to America!"
