Me and Mrs. S are heading up on the train next weekend for a mooch and (hopefully) a good lunch.

Any recommendations from locals or regular visitors would be most welcome.

Around £50 for the two of us (food only). We'll deal with the booze separately!

Gastropub-ish would be fine. Decent chuck steak burgers, chicken dishes, charcuterie boards blah blah blah...

Did a tapas lunch at Tabanco in York a few Saturdays ago and it was excellent. Sherry flight with the meal and a bottle of txakoli did the job too.

Pavement Vaults, Ambiente Tapas (although that can get pricey quickly) amd the Chopping Block are some of our favorites. But you'll be spoiled for choice really.

Don't know about lunch, but as a potential palette cleanser or amuse bouche, the Shambles Sausage and Pie Shop is absolutely incredible.

I see someone has already recommended the two Tapas places I was going to mention, so I'll leave again! 🙂

Middle Feast do some very nice authentic Lebanese food. Looks like a typical kebab house but I really like the grub.
