[#2947706]

Off to Blenheim next week for the game fair so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of somewhere to visit in the area? Needs to be dog friendly preferably and within say half an hour/45 mins. Heading there from the South West so either off the M4 around Swindon or M5 around Gloucester.

Any suggestions? Centre of Oxford probably best avoided.

The chilterns up around Watlington, Christmas Common and Chinnor are lovely. A bit biased cos it's where I grew up but still great.

Bare in mind that the Game Fair is MASSIVE and will take (at least) a full day so if your planning on doing something on the same day then your chances are pretty slim, however if your staying in the area and looking for something on a different day then it depends where your staying, however TSY's suggestions are good (although I've heard some dodgy things about his house and the sick things that happen there!!)

so BBQ round at TSYs then? Actually I was thinking about bringing the bike - cheaky ride somewhere? (the missus would kill me).

We are camping on Thursday and Friday nights (going to the fair on Friday & Sat and avoiding Sunday) so heading up early on Thursday so just looking for somewhere to do some sightseeing before we need to rack up at the camp site and unload the BBQ ready for the others to arrive who are sharing our pitch.

Will check out the above, cheers

Is it the game fair this weekend? Edit - No then.

Might as well forget about driving anywhere if so.

If you don't fancy popping round mine, my Mum lives even closer to Blenheim... you'll probably pass her house. I'll get her to put the kettle on.

Edit: andyl... where are you camping? What bike you thinking of bringing?

The Game Fair is next week (22-24 July), but the traffic management is supposed to be better this year (we'll see!).

Edit: Woodstock is quite pretty and has a few half decent (dog friendly) pubs if your camping withing walking distance.

One of them a few years back saw me queuing for hours through Long Hanborough.

I'm just going to cycle everywhere for the weekend.. or go to TruckFest in Steventon camp, and get off my box for three days.

we are camping at the game fair site. Was joking about the bike - I won't be able to rest knowing it is in the car on a camp site and I am under strict orders it has to be quality time with the missus and no work, bikes or internet!

EDIT: one of the benefits of camping is no traffic. Don't think I would go if not camping.

If you and the Mrs are into a bit of alt-music and fancy a chilled out festival... go to Truckfest for a day or two...
