... or really really poor. Posted on the parents facebook group for my kid's nursery:

"Can I have a discount from the ticket price for the summer fair, as it includes a hot dog and ice cream, but my kid can't have either?"

The price? £2.50

I'd offer to pay for the ticket on their behalf.

I think the same whenever I read your "my car's broken threads", Molgrips. 😉

Sounds cheap to me.

My boy's school had a 'Caribbean event' last week. £4 entry and all we got was rice and pineapple chunks, and the right to pay to queue for the coconut shy.

Personally, I'd have preferred to pay £2.50 for a hot dog and ice cream I didn't eat.

I think it's just an attitude thing, rather than poverty.....

I feel sorry for any kid that can't have hotdogs or ice cream!

^ Thats impressive.

Friend of the family is a millionaire and I used to do the odd little driving jobs when I was a student for him - dropping them off/picking them up from evening do's etc. - he had an Aston Martin but I never got to drive it 🙁 - I got the ratty old Peugeot he had and he made me drive around garages to find free air rather than pay the 10p for a top up for the tyres 😯 .

Our local primary proposed a car boot sale in aid of the school fund.
They cancelled it due to people complaining about the cost for a pitch being too much.
The cost?
£5 per car. FFS £5!
Considering it goes towards the school I think that's pretty reasonable! Its about the going rate at most other car boots and if you have reasonable stuff to sell you'll cover your costs easily.

It might be tight, but I'm forever paying for things that include snacks I can't eat or free drinks I can't drink. it's a bit annoying tbh.

The ticket is £2.50, the hotdog and ice cream are free, so the ticket is still £2.50, it a bit like the free nuts on a bar, they're there but you don't need to eat them.

In that case can I just have the hotdog and ice cream, but not pay the £2.50 as I don't really want to go to the summer fair?
