"Great chieftain o' the puddin'-race."
A chicken is a noble beast,
the cow is much forlorner;
standing in the pouring rain,
with a leg at every corner.
Never could understand all that fuss over a bladder full of oats.
I suppose all the scotch must be necessary to make it half-eatable.

Its quite easy; I put one of your records on the table next to it and decide to either eat the haggis or listen to the album.
Almost starting to like Haggis these days.
I'm scottish and it's my birthday today - not having haggis for tea as i don't like it (i'm veggie anyway) so my mum is making homemade pizza for me.
I'm sure rabbie burns is birling in his grave. ๐

Thanks. With that choice, I wouldn't want my efforts to go to waste.
It is minging stuff mind you, but since it is soft you can swallow most of it without chewing.
Dons tin helmet and heads for the shelter...

If its deep fried you'll be all good
Burn's 'poetry' is a load of utter pish.
Had some lovely haggis, last one i had was not nice....depends on the butcher.
MMMMmmmm! .......Deep Fried Haggis Pizza.....
Deep Fried Haggis Pizza.....
Even Better Than the Real Thing.
Like that picture bait perchy, except, you remember what happened next.... 8) ๐
We're gonna need a bigger thread ๐
if ye see a haggis hooper, swalla
We did a local Burn's ceilidh on Saturday past.
Great fun as always, danced ourselves silly, drank the bar dry and had a fine meal of chip-shop style deep fried haggis sausage.
I've always said Northumberland is basically South South Scotland.
Here's tae us. Wha's like us? Damn few, and they're aw Geordies ๐
Scotland = north Britain
Wales = West Britain
England = occupied territory ๐
Just been and bought tonight's haggis from Waitrose (natch). Just bought a small 'un for MrsIHN and me, but they did have quite a few gert big full size sheep's belly ones. Then again, there's quite a few Scottish landowners down here in the Cotswolds ๐

I'm no burns fan. However, this lass could go far.

Mighty Fuhrer of the sausage people
I went to my first every burns night on friday night, was alright tbh. half a table and the other half were fine, so some good banter. Was a hospice charity do as well, so a good cause.
The speeches and poetry were cringeworthy as hell though, I actually left the room at one point as I couldn't handle it any more! ๐ the forced Scottishness is a pile a nonsense!
The PE dancing was class though! ๐ Canny beat a bit of the gay gordons etc, good laugh!

A Burns supper lives or dies by the quality of the speakers, Generally I find that Uber 'Burnsians' are as dull as ****.
You went to a Burns supper and it was too Scottish?
too forced, and very poor quality speakers, they were only a small part of the evening.scotroutes - Member

We had our Burns supper on Sunday 'cause SWMBO is off on a training course tonight. Just a quiet one this year, unlike last year when we had loads of folks round including our very own piper (my son) and a professional cello player (one of the guests) who gave a nice rendition of the Skye Boat Song.
We aim for fun in ours and divvie up the speeches before hand - to the more English sounding people by preference. Everyone takes it as a laugh though. Large quantities of single malt does help the evening along - Caol Ila seemed to be a big hit with the guests 'cause the pretty much demolished it.

You don't need to understand what 'all that fuss' is about, although I didn't know there was a fuss. Some people like haggis some don't, not everyone needs to like the same thing.
I'm sure you like some foods that I would consider to be inedible shite but I understand people have different taste.
Haggis, neeps and tatties tonight and may have a small malt. Burns supper on Saturday night, no whisky as I'll be driving.
Aye our speaker wasn't very good either - luckily he only did The Address, but he just rattled through it with no real attempt to emote the meaning of the words.
Best I ever heard was a mate's dad up near Aberdeen, who recited all of Tam o'Shanter from memory(!) in his Doric accent, as we sat round the farm table for Burn's night. That was something special.
I'm pulling up a chair at our schools P7 Burns supper. Youngest_oab is compare, school canteen are working late, the pipes are deafening in a small hall. It's going to be amazeballs.
In bed with the flu. And a spot of mild pneumonia as well now.
Wife just brought me a plate of MacSweens (the big daddy of haggis) neeps and tatties. Feel much better now. Might sneak down and have a small schnifter, medicinal of course. I do have a couple of Compass Box specials to get into ....
