have been quite miserable and have moaned about the missus's health on here quite a bit, sought advice, moaned about the NHS, etc etc.
basically I look after the missus full time since her chest conditions and other stuff got worse about 18 months ago, we're both only 30 btw.
we had resigned ourselves to a slow degeneration, and things were pretty bleak, shes been in hospital more than out just lately, didnt realise quite how much this had taken its toll until a junior doctor found some immunology test results a couple of months ago.
she got very excited about the results, and immediately referred us to go and see a specialist, we didnt dare hope tbh.
this morning we had "the meeting" with the specialist, a very nice lady with an intimidating intellect, who looked at my wifes test results, explained all the confusing conditions/symptoms which had been completely stumping her other consultants and the root cause which is a genetic immune deficiency.
she then went on to outline the treatment, and the likelihood of improvement, which is very high.
its difficult to put into words what this feels like, its a bit like being shut in solitary without hope of getting out, then getting parole, and winning the lottery...
really quite chuffed.
Absolutely fantastic news mate, I sincerely hope your wife makes a speedy recovery..
That sounds like wonderful news ๐ I hope she sees a real improvement on things soon. Keep us posted.
Hurrah! Ace news!
Get well soon Mrs D.

It really can be a lottery with who you get to see.
However that is great news. Best wishes to you both.
Great news. I hope that the various docs and medics can sort her out soon, now they know what the problem is..

It's very reassuring to hear "someone in the know" say the things you so desperately wanted to hear and after so long. It must be a huge relief as you begin to move away from all that uncertainty.
Wishing you the very best of luck to your missus on her road to recovery. I hope it will be swift and complete.
Fantastic news, Tim! All the best to yer missus! ๐
Excellent - all the very best to both of you ๐
Play the lottery this Wednesday, you lucky man!
Another one!
My wife has common variable immunodeficiency (CVIA) - for years in and out of hospital and being told by GP to stop wasting his time as she was a tired young mum. Finally took a friend who is consultant and a locum at GP's to get her referred. She has been home subcutaneously injecting immunoglobulins for about 16 months - and is now at the lower end of 'normal' for an immune response, and so much better. no more chest infections etc every few days. It has been a slow response - no miracle cure - and she is on it for the rest of her life, but its great
drop me an email if you want to know more - if your area doesn't do sub. cut. home treatment, you should ask and pester for it as its much better than the intravenous fortnightly or monthly treatments. matt_outandabout AT hotmail.com
common variable immune deficiency indeed !!
I sooo hate having anything "common"
After about 6 years of repeated chest infections... you name it I had it....and repeated bad diagnosis ( I was told by docs I should eat better.. get more sun.. this kind of idiotic statement that I presume you've heard also) I was diagnosed with CVID when I was about 27. As my IgA and IgG are boderline low I only go for IV IgG infusions on an infrequent basis.. currently about 3 times a year.
Anyway the upshot of all this is I am now a fine , healthy (ok , ok mostly ) 54 yr old, and I no longer dread winter and my repeated bouts of pneumonia.
After a few IgG treatments I'm sure you'll see your wife drastically improve.
I'm really happy you have finanly got a proper diagnosis.
anyone for a CVID -STW club?

they predict them being back to normal regions in about 2 months.
she has been diagnosed with CVID btw (until they get more specific)
cheers all for the advice/links chaps
