So just sold my Google Pixel.

Factory reset before sale.

New owner called to say that during setup it still asked for screen pattern to unlock.

No problem, let him know it and it let him carry on with setup.

My question, how come a factory reset didn't reset that pattern lock too??

Just to be safe, I've also changed my Google password. Twice.😊

(Also logged out of all trusted devices and logged back in with new passy.)

Guessing it is a safety thing so that if someone nicks your phone from your hands or before it has shut down for any reason then it is still effectively protected. Otherwise they would only have to do the factory reset before it shuts down to have a phone that is fully unlocked.

Good idea changing the password. My thought was that they have tried to restore your data and are trying to log in. The farmer's suggestion is more likely, I'd have thought google would have the answer.

Although in the past whenever I have done factory resets of android phones, it has been blank and with no passcode - of you wanted to disable the phone you have to contact your network operator to get it removed from UK networks.

Without wishing to worry you unduly...Another possibility is that the factory reset didn't work properly. This happened on my One Plus One. It said it was done and rebooted.

Luckily I went through setup to make sure, as it turned out it still had all my file data like photos (despite ticking the 'erase everything' box) and a bunch of my accounts assigned to it (and I had not signed back in, they were just still on there).
