MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Do you feel supportive, or is it just for an elite clique and nothing to do with you?
It's fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed being there on Sunday watching Hockey and now bought more tickets to watch Diving and Badminton this WE.
Brilliant being so close to the action:

it is fantastic.
i am watching loads of sport i dont usually.
sick of hearing negative f-ecks pull it down tho.
Ton, I agree in full!
Have I missed the beach volley ball yet.?
It'll kick up another gear once the athletics starts.
It's been surprisingly good so far. I wasn't optimistic initially.
If the Opening Ceremony cost £27mm, and there was an audience of 27,000,000 then its the best quid I've ever spent.
It's going to be China's Olympics.
Although some of these Dutch hockey girls are winners from where I'm sitting!
Matt
Agree with Ton 100%.
I really really wanted to go but couldn't get tickets. To see empty seats is gutting but what is worse is the absolute tirade of negative press. It is almost every article starts off negative - seats, transport, drugs. Just petty bolax really and to me puts the UK in a very poor light. Since when did we forget that enjoying yourself is not a crime.
There looks like the distinct possibility that this whole thing might be deemed a success
My Innate Englishness simply can't cope with this. Where's the heroic failure? Where's the comedy cock-ups? Its just not right! My head may explode!
Love it. Aside from the astonishing performances, somehow the athletes seem more "human" and less "superhuman" than in previous Olympics. So you feel connected to them and it's really dramatic. Inspirational.
Maybe it's cos it's in HD

Did you not watch the men's road race 😉
You only have to look at the crowds for both road races to see how popular the whole thing is. The whole two weeks will be deemed a massive success and a show case for GB.
But a year from now the nation will be as deeply in the sh*t as it is now.
plenty of time yet...Where's the heroic failure? Where's the comedy cock-ups?

Technically, analysing present economic figures, it'll actually be far far worse. So sod everything and watch the beach volleyball...

Surely that's got to raise a smile even for you Cressers? 😀
it is fantastic.
i am watching loads of sport i dont usually.
Same here. partly because it's something different, but also because many are never even shown on TV. heck I even accidentally watched 5mins of women's football, and normally I'm very much a vocal anti-footballist.
Shame about the negative sides, the whiners, and media intent on finding (or making) negative stories. If they were sports we'd have a few Gold medals by now 😉
I love you binners
Ahh yes, the medals, the medals. the must-win-at-all-costs medals... Have you noticed how our State Broadcaster is subtlely altering the perceptions of what is sucess?
From a Keynesian economics perspective, the £16b investment in the Olympics is a good thing as it helped soften the recent downturn (although in the SE mainly).
I just like watching sport, so the Olympics is perfect as there's wall-to-wall sport for 2 weeks, including loads of things we don't usually get to see
Also, possibly the best thing about the Olympics is that for a few weeks it drowns out the usual endless drivelling about the new [s]racism[/s] football season ...
its the worlds Olympics, we are hosting it at great expense but it seems to be going well
Every four years I remember how much I love watching amature boxing, gymnastics and rowing.
I really dont care how many medals we win as long as everyone has a lovely time and goes home thinking we're nice and a little bit cool.
No, it's Maccy D's and the Real Thing's (TM) olympics.
Who is Olympics is it?
You're not from around here are you?
So, it's doesn't belong to "The Man", then...
I'm loving seeing the smiles and emotions on most of the winners, hate seeing the pouting and postulations of a minority of them.
Who is Olympics is it?You're not from around here are you?
😳
Eats, shoots and leaves.
All the people banging on about sponsorship...have you never watched any other sporting events in your lives or something?
They're like a bunch of middle aged men with the minds of third formers who've just discovered Rage Against The Machine and are going to defy their parents by coming home 15 minutes after their curfew.
Its certainly nothing to do with me.
Im not a 'whiner' I'm just not in favour of the whole circus. And now its impacting on me directly. My Mrs has never watched football, now all of a sudden she wants to watch because its women playing, Surely you either like the game or you dont?
With most sponsorship the sponsors restrict their exclusivity to the arena rather than seeking domain over the area surrounding the arena as well, or what the BBC may stream to overseas internet users.
ton - Memberit is fantastic.
i am watching loads of sport i dont usually.sick of hearing negative f-ecks pull it down tho.
Agree 100%
Only time in our household that we as a family have sat glued to the TV watching a whole range of different sports together.
Thumbs up so far 🙂
I'm enjoying it & with hindsight I think the opening ceremony was even better than I thought it was on Friday night!
Everyone where I work is full of Olympic banter everyday , and I'm with the others who enjoy watching a random sport I wouldn't normally see.
Obviously I'm not so keen on the corporate olympic state we are living under ( I dwell in London)but it means it now takes me 15 minutes to get to my Epping ride (should I want to miss out the delights of Tottenham)thanks to the improvements on the A406. Cheers IOC. 😉
Plus people have forgotten that London in August is a great place as alot the city buggers off to Tuscany with their nanny , so the roads are always much quieter.
I’m a huge supporter of this ere Limpics.
I’ve seen first hand groups of tourists who are as polite as “most” Londoners, we’ve been asked by the volunteers (who are living down our way whilst the Games are on, we're back in London to just be around the Games) how we are finding the Games so far and from what we’ve seen it’s been an excellent Event.
Friday eves Opening Ceremony was fabulous, we sat in Cabot Sq in Canary Wharf and along with probably 2000 other folk with picnics there wasn’t a hint of angst or jostling for position on the 400sq mtr of grass that there can be when the suns out. I’ve met some dignitaries who have opened their homes to VIP’s who have come over to be with fellow county men and reports are that all Tommy Tourists are having a Right Jolly Hockey Sticks of a good time here.
Londons empty which is rather odd but good in a way.. so we can get around easy (how selfish am I)
I do think that Boris has overestimated the amount of Tommy Tourist that are going to come over here though, from what I’ve seen getting around to/from and in/out of That London and there is an army of helpers who (including Train staff (I know!!) who have been almost over helpfull, lets hope that continues) Just goes to show that when everyone's on board with this thing it's amazing what we can actually achieve..
So I'd like to say a big THANKS to all those that volunteer thier time and efforts, they've so far been quite amazing.
All good, though I refuse to wear a Union Jack.
Right.. lets see what you really think (not just the vocal minority)... I've added a straightforward poll on the front page. Just two options..
Thumbs up
Waste of time
In many ways you could think of the choices as 'yes' or 'no' 🙂
So far it's 100% for 🙂
...but only two of us have voted
One is me 🙂
I think you'll find that was me. I can out-grump and out-doom the lot of you.
So then....this poll on the front page; sponsored by anyone is it?
Golden Arches, perchance? "I'm Loving It", indeed....
For me the Olympics has been great so far.
Am going to the footie at Wembley tomorrow and then athletics Fri evening to cheer on Jessica Ennis!
I have loved it so far, I have watched so many sports that I would never normally be interested in.
I was glued to the Archery events, loved it!
I think its fab and inspiring, I did feel sad about the empty seats but it looks they are sorting that out!
Be positive! Be inspired! Believe!
That is all..... 🙂
It's wonderful.
Being in central London certainly helps feel part of it. hats off the all the volunteers too.
So far I've been to both road races, will try and make the time trial. Will watch the ladies marathon with my daughter. Have tickets/invite to Beach Volley Ball, Swimming and Athletics.

I am enjoying the sport especially seeing the road race live and as usual becoming gripped with sports that I only ever watch every four years - archery, volleyball (last night GB women!), handball, table tennis, sailing etc
It seems that most things have gone very well and we should feel proud of that and praise those that have done a good job. But, I do find it amazing that it is somehow wrong or even unpatriotic to suspend our own critical capacities over the period of the games...what a sad experience that would be! We can be supportive as appropriate without succumbing to brainwashing!
It is right to contrast the atmosphere and support on 'free events' such as the road race with the ticket issues and empty seats. Olympics is about celebrating participation in sport and if the vulgar sideshow that inevitably goes with it, prevents that, then there is no harm in pointing that out. Same with the world cup.
Anyway back to watching and enjoying (for the most part 😉 )
Absolutely loving it. Love sport in general and loving these olympics. It is brilliant having it so local and as others have said it is that "once every four years" chance to see sports that you don't normally see. Just watching some of the events and hearing the "home support" is pretty amazing. The hardest thing is having to work! Really looking forward to our visit to see the hockey next week and get a chance to soak up the Olympic Park atmosphere. I must say I don't really understand the psyche of the naysayers over something like this, those that only seem happy when they're complaining about something.
I'm for the Olympics, but hoped that being in the host nation there'd be more chance to watch the less well known sports.
BBCs 1, 2, and 3 carry all of the usual cycling swimming and running. I tried the red button and saw judo listed, but when clicked on it was pistol shooting. The streaming over the net is unwatchable, so I couldn't watch any fencing, and all the time this was going on BBC4 was switched off!
Olympics great, coverage not so. They'd better make sure the BMX is on the tellybox, or, or ... I'll legally (there's precedent) tweet a joke about blowing something up. 😉 (emoticon for the rozzers)
As some of you may know I sail a bit.
So don't get too diheartened by Paul Goodison or Ben Ainsles results so far, they do normally start off regattas a bit slow.
The 49ers are about par although they do have some flashes in the pan and can pull off some decent results, Ian and Andrew in the Star are doing amazing so far, these guys can wobble in the middle of the regatta so bare that in mind, it's early days..
Nic Dempsey is a hero and should do well in the Windsurfing, top 3 IMO.
I'm back from a weekend of spectating.
Road race was awesome even if it didn't go well for the men. Seeing the people out supporting athletes doing a sport that I love was truely amazing. I was in Ripley, not a point on the course of much significance other than Wiggins liked the coffee on a training ride. Crowd was about 4 deep and atmosphere fantastic.
Watched some stuff on Sunday on TV including the women road race, bit of dressage, some slalom and then a few sports I know little about.
Monday was spent watching the Cross Country (Horse, 3 day eventing). Great atmosphere again, loads of support for everyone but loudest for the Brits. Saw some top athletes and horses doing what they do best.
My only gripe is that living in Newcastle means I've only managed to see tow events live. If I was down south I'd have put in for loads more and taken some days off work if I go them.
