They legally have to be carried as hand luggage, and even then (depending on capacity) only at the discretion of the airline/pilot. There are also capacity limits, and they should be isolated at in protective packaging to prevent shorts etc.
Pressure change wouldn't cause it, incorrect storage/short far more likely (or a damaged pack from a drone case).

I've had to fly with battery packs etc. for work, and it's a right PITA.

MH370 was apparently carrying 200KG+ of LiPo batteries.
